French Decodable texts that align with the Science of Reading and current available reading education concepts. The easy to use texts can be utilised in the classroom with little to no preparation. Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

Science of Reading Assessment Tool Tracking Sheet

I created a French SOR Assessment tool to cover all the sounds for students K to 3 in the French Immersion setting (Grade 4-6 Core French) for easy assessment and evaluation. Once I got started on my own testing, I realized I could use a quick look tracking sheet.

I learned how to make the boxes editable and hope it works out for you. (I did ask a few colleagues to try it out first). I am offering it FREE for now.

Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. ➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. French Science of Reading STARTER KIT Activity Bundle is a combination of Science of Reading aligned activities that I have created, designed, and classroom tested to bring you the best of what's in store. What's in the Bundle?

1. Decodable Sentence Strips that are ideal for hands-on learning. Students use the resource in clear folders and write out the phonemes, decode, and write out the sentences all on their own

2. French Phoneme Activity pads are sheets to print out, insert into clear pockets (or laminate) and students form blended sounds using CV sounds available on the side. Students start with /a/ and blend each consonant by saying the sound, tapping the sound, mapping the sound, and writing the sound. Excellent early practice for those just getting started with the Science of Reading

3. French Phonics Alphabet activity sheets are designed to get that each sound of the alphabet familiarized and into the daily lexicon of each student. This can be used as a whole group instruction activity prior to being given out. The students could each get a booklet for doing each sound as the year progresses, for morning work packets, or this could be used for extension activities for early finishers.

4. Decodable Texts are the first set of texts that focus on early sound patterns for those setting out to learn the phonemes in French. A great way to start out for K-2 Immersion students that are just getting used to French sounds. These texts include a target sound, a few heart words, a small text, and comprehension questions.

5. French Phonics Screener is my most downloaded item in my store and this full version will take you from Kindergarten all the way to the Grade 2 level in French Immersion as it includes complex sounds, complex vowels, and all the blended sounds as well. A comprehensive screening tool that take a few minutes per students so you know right at the beginning of the year, where you need to focus your lesson planning!

6. Pyramid Reading Cards 1 are a set of early reading sounds that will get your students excited and motivated to embark on the world of reading. Each card has one repeating sentence that students get to practice from top to bottom. My students love to do these cards in pairs as they sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee to read to a buddy.

7. Large Phonics Flash Cards are a MUST in the Science of Reading classroom. Once your students are able to distinguish sounds, they are asking to put the grapheme to the phoneme! So here you go. Large print. Easy font. Easy print. The letters are positioned for easy stacking so you can hang on a ring and flip pages quickly. Students LOVE to be the Mini-prof when it's their turn to try to stump their classmates. Once you have the single sounds down, it's time to blend. Printing on different coloured paper and laminated will help cards to last year after year!

If you need an entertaining French Halloween reading passage with listening comprehension activities that are ready to use, your students will love LE LOUP, a spooky (but not too scary) story that will leave them wanting more! French Decodable texts BUNDLE that aligns with the Science of Reading are a NO PREP printable activity for the K-2 French classroom. Students practice endoding and decoding skills and build confidence in reading.

Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.

Texts are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Form present tense and futur proche sentences using the French verb ALLER. Worksheet includes ten sentences to reconstruct: conjugate verbs, add articles and prepositions when necessary, make agreement, etc.

Example: Marie et Estelle / aller / parc / 15 heures

Response: Marie et Estelle vont au parc à 15 heures.

I was getting frustrated trying to find texts to support my biodiversity unit, and was finding my students could truly only find pertinent, engaging information by researching. What I had at my disposition was outdated; or didn't particularly touch on diversity, or was overly focused on specific species of animals... It simply wasn't cutting it. I wanted to teach with a cross-curricular approach and integrate biodiversity-themed readings in with my language arts program. Ta-Da!

These texts can also be used as mentor texts when teaching your informative or research report unit; and they can also be used as guided readings with small groups, or as a whole group choral reading. No more finding enough copies of books for your crew: simply print and go.

Just print and go with this French board game, worksheet, crossword, and sudoku activity to conjugate the irregular stem verb avoir in the futur simple. The board game includes 37 numbered boxes. The first player to reach box 37 wins. No prep for you! Take a look at the preview for full details on everything that is included, and save with the bundle!

Board Game: Some boxes require students to conjugate the verb using the provided subject pronoun, and others require them to name the subject pronoun that matches the verb conjugation. Lots of repetition will really help them to memorize the French verb avoir in the futur simple. There are a few fun tricks along the way, so getting to the end isn’t always so easy.

In groups of two to four, players take turns rolling a die to move their pieces forward. Spaces are numbered to keep track of which way they’re moving. There are some spaces with special instructions:

• Départ - Start
• Avance de 5 cases - Move forward 5 spaces
• Recule de 5 cases - Move backward 5 spaces
• Rejoue - Play again
• Tu perds ton tour - Lose a turn
• Fin - End

For an extra challenge and to extend playing time, you can tell your students that they have to land directly on the last square and answer it correctly to win. 

Worksheet: One page worksheet - Half of the page requires students to fill in subject pronouns, and the other half requires them to conjugate the verb. This is a great way to prep for the board game!

Crossword: One more excellent way to review this irregular stem in the futur simple.

Sudoku puzzle: Your students will review this irregular verb stem and exercise their brains in a different way with a sudoku puzzle!
