Learning to read is not something that happens overnight! It takes a lot of practice and persistence! Learning to read seems complicated but the top skills children need are phonemic awareness, decoding, orthographic mapping, fluency skills, comprehension, and lots of persistence and practice! These lessons have all of these skills needed! I give some tips and tricks on how to make it hands-on! These lessons are quick and easy to implement! There is no prep needed. Print and get to work! These work well for your intervention groups or you can hand it to an aide with no extra work from you!

This is a lesson that is from my CVC Fluency Lessons Bundle. In this lesson you will have one detailed lesson plan, phonemic awareness, reading CVC words, orthographic mapping of CVC words, a high-frequency word, and scaffolded and regular CVC decodable passage. This is a great introduction to teaching fluency while still working on the important skills students need to become fluent readers! This resource is no prep and easy to use!

Quick Phonemic Awareness Practice

This bookmark resource provides you with 5 quick tasks to practice. It includes isolating beginning, middle, and ending sounds and blending and segmenting sounds. There is a small list of words provided so that you don't have to think them up. Keep this small bookmark in your purse, on a clipboard, on your lanyard, or anywhere that you can quickly grab and go!
CVC Word List by Continuous and Stop Sounds

This isn't an ordinary CVC word list. This list organizes these CVC words into two groups. Words that begin with continuous sounds and words that begin with stop sounds.
You will want to use words with continuous sounds to support beginning and struggling readers.

How? Students flip a picture card over, these are focused on a specific phonics pattern, to get their word. Next students work on tapping out the sound. They can use the Elkonin boxes or the guide dots to help track the sounds tapped. After they will build the words by writing a letter for each sound made and using letter tiles(that are provided, so no need to search or organize tiles, just print, cut, and use). Lastly, the student uses the word to create a sentence.
This activity makes for a great center, small group work, independent practice, and even homework.
Need a way to hold them accountable?
No worries, there is a recording sheet available where students can record a few of their flips. All they have to do is write the word and the sentence on the sheet. This gives you a glimpse into their understanding and insures that they are indeed working during center, small group, and independent work time.

Looking for a way to help your students practice the skill of decoding? With blending lines, you can do just that. This quick no-prep digital or paper activity can have your students practicing decoding (sounding out) words in a snap. These blending lines are phonics focused and are great for whole-group or small-group learning. I’ve based these lists on Wiley Blevins’s suggestions for blending lines.
