Phonics Handouts (by date, oldest first)

Reading and writing with phonics patterns can be simplified! When students know how to break up words or what to look for in words they will have more success! These handouts can be for you to use when teaching concepts or can go in a notebook for students to look at when reading unfamiliar words or spelling words!

There are SO many spelling patterns that we as educators need to know to effectively teach our students how to properly spell! This handout covers what I think are the most important patterns that students need to know! This is what I wish I had to help explain to students when and why we are spelling words a certain way!

You can provide this to students if you would like but I made it more in mind for you!

Spelling is hard! There are so many patterns and we have to decide which one to use! This is a handout that is made for students to use as their OWN sound wall. My students always have a binder with helpful handouts for spelling and reading! This one is great! They say the sound, find the patterns that make that sound and spell with it!

It is important for students to know about syllable types and HOW to break them apart. It is also important for students to know the definitions of suffixes and prefixes so that we can grow their vocabulary! These are handouts that I wish I had as a teacher to help me teach syllable types in reading and spelling!

• Syllable Division Rules (VCV, VCCV, CLE, VCCCV, VCCCCV)
• Syllable Type Rules for reading and spelling (word mapping example)
• Miscellaneous Phonics Rules; suffixes and prefixes, all the jobs of silent e, contractions, & homophones, homographs, homonyms

• Common Spelling Patterns Guide for FREE; This is a gem made just for you so that you have the most important spelling rules right in front of you while you teach!

This is a spring-themed activity to practice beginning Digraphs Sh-, Th-, Wh-, and Ch-.

**Students will need Scissors, Glue/Tap, and Colored Pencils/Crayons.**

Students will need to cut out the center of the flower with the beginning digraphs on them. Then they will need to cut off the pedals. (6 pedals for each digraph). Once they have cut it all out, they will then glue/tape the pedals to which center they belong.

Example: There goes with Th- center.

This would be a great activity to display students' work!

This is a worksheet for students to practice inflectional endings: -ed, -ing, and plural endings. Students will need colored pencils, crayons, or markers to color in the puppies with the correct endings. This would be a great product for morning work, sub work, and or busy work. I hope you enjoy. Practice ending digraphs and trigraphs: -sh, -ch, -ng, and -tch with this color by endings. Two colors are listed to give students freedom to choose between the two colors and/or use both creating some pleasant designs. This would also be a great resource to have students cut out and hang around the room/bulletin board to display students work in the room.

This is a quick and easy resource for practicing ending digraphs -sh and -ch, and ending trigraph -tch. You can also have your students cut out and hang these ornaments around the room to display student work.

This is an activity for identifying 3 letter beginning blends SPL, STR, and SPR. There are multiple activities that you can do with your students with this product. I used it for identifying the blends but you could also have students create their own words that they know start with the blends. This is a create resource for displaying student work.
