Pre-K Phonics Task Cards

This resource was created in order to help Speech Language Pathologists target initial phonemes at the word level. This resource includes a total of 40 pictured initial /h/ CV and CVC words to use the h-insertion trick during speech therapy sessions.

The h-insertion trick can be an extremely helpful strategy to use when children are stuck at the isolation level of a sound. By producing /h/ after the initial sound, the child continues their air flow, making it easier to produce the following vowel. This helps them to eliminate the prior habit of producing the incorrect sound.

This fun and engaging deck of 20 CARDS will reinforce PHONEMIC AWARENESS SKILLS in students as they work independently to identify rhyming words.

Each card includes a LARGER PICTURE and three SMALLER, MULTIPLE-CHOICE PICTURES. Students are required to select the picture in the group of three that rhymes with the first picture.

AUDIO is provided for all items and the first card provides AUDIO DIRECTIONS.

Immediate FEEDBACK is provided, and students will be automatically directed to the next card once the correct answer has been chosen.

PHONEMIC AWARENESS, or the ability to MANIPULATE INDIVIDUAL SOUNDS OR PHONEMES within words, is a critical skill for children to learn prior to decoding and spelling.

Being able to successfully IDENTIFY, SUBSTITUTE, and DELETE PHONEMES in words is a PREDICTOR of future READING SUCCESS. Because phonemic awareness involves the sounds or phonemes in words, it does not include or require knowledge of alphabetic characters.

These task cards target the SEGMENTATION tier in the hierarchy of phonemic awareness.

These visually pleasing CVC Picture Word Task Cards focus on sounding and spelling and helps students build fluency, build background knowledge of CVC words and pictures, and practice letter-sound correspondence. Task Cards include short vowel A, E, I, O, U.

Set #1 Task Cards include the CVC Words above the picture. The colored Task Cards contain the vowel letter in the color red. For the Black and White Task Cards, the CVC word is printed in plain black above the picture.

Both sets of Task Cards have a variety of uses. They are great for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade letter-sound review. They can be used in centers, small groups, tutoring, as a hands-on morning work activity, for early finishers, home-school activity, literacy center, etc.

These CVC Words Task Cards are provided with two color options. There are 128 color cards, and 128 black line cards FOR EACH OF THE TWO SETS, totaling 512 Task Cards in total!

⭐️ PHONOLOGICAL AWARENESS ⭐️ PHONEMIC AWARENESS ⭐️ ELKONIN BOXES ⭐️

This fun and engaging deck of 20 CARDS will reinforce PHONEMIC AWARENESS SKILLS in students as they work independently to identify initial sounds.

Each card includes AUDIO of a clearly spoken PHONEME (sound) and three multiple-choice pictures with audio descriptions. Students are required to listen to the phoneme and select the picture with that phoneme in the INITIAL position.

AUDIO is provided for all items and the first card provides DIRECTIONS with AUDIO. IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK is provided and students will be automatically directed to the next card once the correct answer has been chosen.

PHONEMIC AWARENESS, or the ability to MANIPULATE INDIVIDUAL SOUNDS OR PHONEMES within words, is a critical skill for children to learn prior to decoding and spelling.

Being able to successfully IDENTIFY, SUBSTITUTE, and DELETE PHONEMES in words is a predictor of future reading success. Because phonemic awareness involves the sounds or phonemes in words, it does not include or require knowledge of alphabetic characters.

These task cards target the PHONEME ISOLOLATION tier in the hierarchy of phonemic awareness.
