Word Tracking/one to one correspondence worksheets/halloween coloring/Kinder

By Katelyn Schneider

Teaching students how to track words from left to right and use one-to-one correspondence is the first step in teaching them to read. By providing them with the ability to read the correct number of words on a page, we are preventing omissions and additions to sentences. This is the first step you should be taking with non-readers.

This booklet is Halloween Themed and includes 10 pages with follow-along text. Each page works with color identification and the booklet includes a color guide to help the students with color word recognition. Perfect for small group activities and a chance at word tracking!

BOOM CARDS™ Digital Task Cards Three-part Elkonin Boxes Phonemic Awareness

By Tech for Teaching

⭐️ PHONOLOGICAL ⭐️ AWARENESS PHONEMIC ⭐️ AWARENESS ELKONIN BOXES ⭐️

⭐️This deck of 30 BOOM CARDS™ is intended to be used for direct instruction of phonemic awareness either in person or remotely. Large colorful pictures will increase student interest while three-dimensional drag-and-drop dots are used to visually demonstrate the process of breaking CVC words into individual phonemes.

⭐️Words included are:

rat, jet, pig, pop, sun, map, bed, hot, fin, bus, fan, web, pit, jog, gum

⭐️Phonemic awareness, or the ability to manipulate individual sounds or phonemes within words, is a critical skill for children to learn prior to decoding and spelling. Being able to successfully identify, substitute, and delete phonemes in words is a predictor of future reading success. A link to access 30 Digital Task Cards on the BOOM Learning Website for practicing the phonemic awareness skill of segmenting words into sounds.

Count the Phonemes or Sounds in Words~Circus Peanuts, Phonemic Awareness K-1

By Regina Frazier

Students will count the phonemes or sounds they hear in picture word cards and place them on peanut bags. They will place the peanut word card under the number that represents the sounds they hear. This is a terrific phonemic awareness activity. Students need to know the difference between counting the sounds they hear in words and counting letters in words. I also find that many students often confuse counting phonemes with counting syllables in words. Students need to practice this phonemic awareness skill often so they can become better writers and their inventive spelling will improve. They need lots and lots of practice. Breaking words up into individual sounds is in many DIBELS testing that kindergarten students are expected to do.

You could use this activity on a pocket chart or

I updated this packet to include 36 pictures for students to sort into categories as they count the sounds they hear in words. There are extra peanuts for you to use if you wish to design new words to add to this activity. This activity also comes with an Answer Key.

You will receive the following:

  • Sorting mats for two sounds, three sounds, and four sounds
  • 36 peanut sorting cards with pictures and words
  • 36 peanut sorting cards with just the pictures and no words
  • recording sheets with primary lined paper (differentiated by the number of lines)
  • recording sheets with secondary lined paper (differentiated by the number of lines)
  • Answer Key
