This product utilizes the Talk, Read, Talk, Write teaching strategy to get students talking, reading, and writing about The Civil War. There are 4 parts to this lesson. Students will first talk in partners or groups about a topic related to The Civil War. Students will then read 3 paragraphs about The Civil War and answers some questions. Students will then discuss a question related to The Civil War. Finally, students will reflect and write on a topic related to The Civil War.

Do your students need May Morning Meeting Slides? Using different May Morning Week can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The May Morning Slides can be utilized along with your greeting and other activities.  The May Morning Meeting questions should be used during the month of May with your students but could be used during other months too. 

There are spring questions, Memorial Day questions, and others to celebrate the different holidays in May. All of the questions are on Google Slides that can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the next Google Slide each morning for that day. There are 20 EDITABLE and DIVERSE slides just for the month of May! If you use my Morning Meeting Question of The Day (180 slides), you can use one question from that and one seasonal or monthly question each day. This assessment tool provides a tailored and effective method for evaluating and enhancing students' reading abilities, ultimately promoting literacy success in the French K-2 classroom. By incorporating the principles of the Science of Reading, this tool ensures a systematic and evidence-based approach to evaluating reading progress.

Phonemic awareness, which focuses on recognizing and manipulating individual sound in words, is integrated to improve French students' ability to decode and spell words accurately. Additionally, phonological awareness, which involves understanding the sound structure of language is emphasized to enhance overall language and reading skills.

I developed this with a dear friend long ago so we could easily keep track of our assessments for Kindergarten students. Flash forward a few years (many years, actually) and I have now been able to incorporate my knowledge of Science of Reading and concepts from the resources we use in our Province to assess students learning French in a variety of learning environments.

I now teach a group of Grade 1s and a group of Grade 2s and use this assessment tool 3 times a year! Game changer!

How to use this:

Make enough copies for each student in your classroom and assign an assessment binder for data collection.

I use the first two sheets at the beginning of the year in order to inform where my reading program needs to start.

Use the tool throughout the school year to chart progress and to see areas of concern

You can also start to see trends and areas of need where you may need to review certain sounds as a whole class or perhaps a small group.

Need a great, easy-to-use reading log? This was successfully used for many years when we had a time slot cut out for a 30-minute reading time each day. Students earn points towards rewards such as homework passes, computer time, or have your students earn point each six weeks or quarter for a special movie day event.

This phonics book was made with kindergarteners and first graders in mind.

The sounds included are short vowel (cvc), long vowel (cvc silent e), common blends, and digraphs.

Use this journal as you teach different sounds.

After instructing the students have them use the journal to record words that they find while reading. This is particularly good if you use phonics readers / decodable readers. I partner my students up and have them partner read from the reader and record any words that they find at the end of each

page they are reading. This gets the students reading, saying, and discussing the words together! What better practice than that!
