In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Charlemagne and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important historical events from the Middle Ages before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that analyzes ancient Greece in regard to their culture, government and Alexander the Great which is studied in the 6th grade curriculum under the following standards:

• 6.5 As complex societies and civilizations change over time, their political and economic structures evolve. A golden age may be indicated when there is an extended period of time that is peaceful, prosperous, and demonstrates great cultural achievements.
• 6.5a Geographic factors influence the development of classical civilizations and their political structures.
• 6.5b Political structures were developed to establish order, to create and enforce laws, and to enable decision making.

This resource begins by challenging students with a mission, act as Alexander the Great and conquer new lands across Africa, Europe, and Asia, just as Alexander did over 2,000 years ago; failure will result in them "perishing", unable to overcome the rugged terrain and powerful enemies that stand in your way. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #6. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code. Once they have completed the scavenger hunt they will receive a half sheet of paper stating that they have successfully conquered new lands over various continents!

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

The Industrial Revolution, often categorized into the First Industrial Revolution and Second Industrial Revolution, marked a transitional phase in the global economy towards more extensive, efficient, and consistent manufacturing methods, following the Second Agricultural Revolution. Initiating in Great Britain circa 1760, the Industrial Revolution extended to continental Europe and the United States by approximately 1840. Students roll dice (Dice not included) the randomly be asked a revision question. If correct they place their piece onto the Tetris game board.

  • 1. Roll dice. This will give you your tetrominoe.
    2. Roll dice again. You have to answer the question to drop the tetrominoe. If you are
    incorrect, your opponent can drop the tetrominoe.
    3. Tetrominoe can be rotated to drop in any way but CANNOT be placed underneath. 4. Complete a row to earn a point. The most points by the end of the game wins.
    5. The game ends when a tetrominoe touches the top bar.

Each slide contains text taking students through Ávila’s past (its incredible walls, towers and cathedral) and present-day life with some views of the city!  The text is mainly written in both present and past (preterite and imperfect) and therefore is great for Years 2, 3 and 4. This beautiful piece is originally attributed to Italian composer Alessandro Marcello and later arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach for the keyboard. Both pieces are widely available on YouTube, from the oboe to violin and of course, the piano.
