My Biggest Worry Worksheet

By SEN Resource Source

Worksheet in which children should think about what their biggest worry is and then what that worry looks like in their head. They should then think about their worst fear of how this could end and then the reality of how it would be most likely to end.

Why do you need this?

The worksheet helps children identify and articulate their worries, which is the first step in learning to manage and cope with them effectively. By acknowledging their concerns, children can begin to develop strategies for regulating their emotions and reducing anxiety.

Engaging in the exercise encourages children to recognize the thoughts and images associated with their worries, increasing their cognitive awareness of how their minds process fear-inducing scenarios. This awareness can empower them to challenge negative thinking patterns and develop more balanced perspectives.

How and when might you use this?

This worksheet can be used in a variety of ways:

· During counselling sessions this worksheet can be used to facilitate discussions with students who may be experiencing anxiety or stress.

· Small group activities to promote peer interaction and mutual support for those suffering with anxiety or worries.

· Social-emotional learning lessons focused on emotional awareness and self-reflection.

· As part of a mental health curriculum the worksheet can be used to teach children about the nature of worries and fears, as well as strategies for managing them effectively.

· This worksheet can be used as a means for providing follow up support to monitor progress, reinforce coping strategies and address ongoing concerns.

Eco-Map SEL Activity

By Erin Cusumano

An eco-map is often used an assessment tool in clinical mental health settings, but can be a beneficial SEL activity for social awareness. This exercise can be modified for small children all the way through adults.

The graph asks the participant to picture their social life as an ecosystem where they are at the center. In the blank space around them they can write in all of their formal and informal social ties and resources they have. (For younger children I suggest offering the option to draw the people in their life!) For further reflection, the participant can then add a + to signify if the person/resource is a positive part of their life, a - to signify if the person/resource is a negative part of their life, or write +- to signify a give and take relationship.

I use this worksheet along with social awareness lessons to encourage students to think about who they can ask for help from, who they have as supports, or reflect on relationships. It also allows you to gain insight into your students' life and resources outside of the classroom.

Peer pressure is real and all too common! Teens constantly experience all kinds of peer pressure (positive and negative) both in and out of school. Peer pressure can ultimately affect teens' decision-making, behaviors, emotions, and self-esteem. It's often hard to navigate difficult situations when dealing with negative peer pressure and hard to take risks when experiencing positive peer pressure.

PASSAGE TITLE: “Lockwood Avenue”

This resource includes ONE full-page reading passage related to Risky Behaviors. The passage is in dialogue form to make it more interesting and relatable. To determine whether this passage is suitable for your students, this is what the passage is about:

A high school teen is peer pressured to cut class and sneak out of the school building with her male friend because her next period class English teacher is absent and there is a substitute. This high school teen must consider the consequences and make a decision. (Negative Peer Pressure)

After students read the passage, they will complete a worksheet that consists of four open-ended questions and support their responses with evidence from the text.

A very detailed Answer Key is included to help you review the answers and engage your students in meaningful discussions.

**********************************

Writing/Discussion Questions TASK CARDS and WORKSHEETS

Included are 8 Writing/Discussion Questions that are related to the topic of risky behaviors.

They come in two variations:

✅ Mini Task Cards - Color/B&W – 8 Task Cards on a page making it printer friendly.

✅ Worksheets Form with lines for students to write their answers.

The Writing/Discussion Questions are the same in both the Task Cards and Worksheets.

**********************************

❤️ When/How to Use the Writing/Discussion Questions:

The Writing/Discussion Questions can be used as a writing assignment or for discussions – your choice! You can use the Writing/Discussion Questions either before or after students read the passage.

Use Questions BEFORE Reading

  • The questions can be used before students read the passage to build background knowledge of the topic presented in the text, or students can use the questions to engage in meaningful discussions to prepare them for the reading of the text.

Use Questions AFTER Reading

  • The questions can be used after students read the passage to express their “new” understanding of the topic presented in the text. They can also be used to give students an opportunity to apply or share what they have learned from the passage.

You can use some questions before and after they read the passage – it’s totally up to you!

Please note, the Writing/Discussion Questions are the same exact questions in both the Task Cards and Worksheets. (Answer Keys are NOT included for these questions. There are no concrete right or wrong answers. Students use the questions to express their thinking and ideas about the topic under discussion.)
