Geography Task Cards (by date, oldest first)

Learn the US states and capitals with these foldable flash cards. This 50 states and capitals activity helps students learn the states and their capital cities.

What is Included:

Each state is represented with its own foldable flash card. On the front of the card is an outline of each state with a star for the location of the capital city. The inside of the card reveals the capital city of that state. There are picture directions showing how to create the foldable flashcards.

How to Use:

Students will look at the image of the US state and see if they can remember the capital city for that state. Then, they will open the card to see if they remembered the state's capital city correctly.

These cards provide a great independent activity for students to work on learning the US states and capitals.

#austeacherBFR This is a set of task cards for Australia. They could also be used to play a game of SCOOT and the directions to play are included. The task cards or game are perfect for a Social Studies or Geography lesson on Australia. The questions on the cards include state/territory, landmarks, emblems (bird, animal, and floral), and capitals.

What type of economy do we live in? How does it affect our way of life, what we own, where we work, how we obtain resources, and how goods and services are produced? This resource will help your students understand the different types of economies and how each plays a role in cultures around the world.

Understanding economic systems — Traditional economy, market economy, command economy, and mixed economy — can influence the way we live, work, and obtain resources. Working in groups, students will engage themselves in completing task cards after a PowerPoint or Keynote introductory presentation. Through the task cards, students will understand the ways in which different economic systems work and then will be able to apply their knowledge to various economic scenarios while playing the class game of Monopoly. Finally, students will show what they have learned by filling out Economics Exit Cards.

This lesson is easy enough for 5th graders to understand yet works well with students up to grade 12. Modifications can be made as needed.

Need a great activity for your South America study? These 24 task cards are a great way to both introduce the unit study or evaluate what students gained during the unit in a fun and interactive way. Not only is it fun, but it will get students moving around the room in an organized and timely manner, which will make the learning process fun and engaging.

Place these cards around the room and have students on a timed rotation. 24 pre-constructed task cards, a student answer sheet, and a teacher's key included. All you have to do, is print, cut, laminate if you wish, post in areas around the room, and let your students have fun learning. You may wish to provide atlases and resources at each station if your student's textbooks do not address these questions.

This is a great cooperative learning activity but can also be adapted to one student per card.

This second set of bell ringers asks students to use their class atlases to read maps, graphs, and charts such as map projections, climate maps, time zone maps, population pyramids, and more. Although they are specified for the first six weeks, they can be used at any time throughout the year. The atlas used for reference is the Rand McNally 6th Edition found on Amazon for $15 found here. But many atlases can be used and are more affordable here. If you use another atlas, simply modify each slide to reference the map or page in the atlas you are using. Let Your Students Experience Traveling the Ancient Silk Road & Learn About The New Current Silk Road.

Trading Along The Silk Road focuses on the geographical theme of "movement" of goods, people, ideas, and technology. Students will work in cooperative groups and will travel the Silk Road. This lesson allows them to travel through ten different countries and learn about the (1) trading routes (2) government (3) religion (4) available and needed resources, and other experiences of those who traveled the "Royal Road". The lesson begins with an introductory activity Exchange/Trade Introduction Activity along with watching a suggested video (video not required for the introduction).

The Group will move to the reading activity that discusses the ancient Silk Road in comparison to the new Silk Road of 2013/15.

Group will, then, travel from one "Journey Station" to the next, in all visiting 10 different countries and cultures along the ancient Silk Road. Engage students in experiences of the ancient foreign trade market as well as the current Silk Road market.

To wrap up the lesson, students will complete Exit Cars and the instructor will encourage a class discussion.

Get your students involved in exploring and providing solutions for Africa's Population Boom! This lesson includes a fun Human Twister intro activity, cooperative learning reading activity, chart population activity, and "**Share What You Learned "**exit card for the wrap-up. Students will be actively engaged through the entire lesson, working cooperatively with one another to examine issues and complete tasks. This lesson includes 14 pages of detailed teacher instructions, a Human Twister Introductory activity, a reading assignment, and fun enhancement activities, as well as a group share wrap-up activity.

OBJECTIVES:

· Understand the cause and effect of rapid population growth in Africa.

· Explore economic, political, cultural, and environmental issues leading to and as result of rapid population growth

of Africa.

· Examine the consequences of Africa’s rapid population growth.

· Explore the capabilities of improving the level of living in the midst of Africa’s rapid population growth.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

In preparation, the teacher will need to create the large floor circles for Twister and have a timer for the reading activity.

• Human Population Twister Game (Introductory Activity)

• One of each: yellow, green, blue, and red circles placed on the floor in each corner of the room or wherever you have space for a large number of students to stand and to which they can easily move. It is suggested to cut out each circle —24 inches in diameter— and laminate them so that the circles do not tear and can easily be reused.

• Africa’s Population Boom! (Reading Activity)

• How Fast Are These Countries Growing? (Cooperative Group Chart Activity)

• Task Card or Accordion Activity: Students can choose which one they wish to complete or the instructor can choose which one best works for his/her students. Note: Both cover the same questions.

• A Timer that makes noise for the class reading activity

• Guiding Questions for reading activity

• Calculator for the How Fast Are These Countries Growing? (Chart Activity)

• Share What You Learned + Exit Cards (Wrap-up Activity)
