1st Grade Biology Lesson

Students will make a life size model of the human body as they learn about the systems of the body. This Unit supports the Next Generation Science Standards.

The “Science Kids” series is intended to help teachers implement developmentally appropriate, hands-on science activities for children in Preschool, Kindergarten and the early grades. The activities in these packets are based on the scientific method and encourage inquiry-based learning. All activities can be differentiated to meet the needs of your students.

As we make the life size body model, the students will learn about:

★ The skeletal system (bones)

★ The respiratory system (lungs)

★ The muscular system (muscles)

★ The cardiovascular system (heart, veins and arteries)

★ The digestive system (stomach and intestines)

★ The nervous system (spine and brain)

This packet also includes a printable book: “My Amazing Body” (black and white)

Suggestions for additional activities are included (including printable activities)

⭐Cover the NGSS about life cycles while reading about TICKS! Students will also learn a little bit about Lyme Disease and how to protect themselves from this growing problem. This booklet comes in two sizes. This is a great group read and discussion for first and second graders. It is an independent read for third and fourth grades. There two posters with pictures of ticks and even the bulls-eye rash. There are Lyme Disease prevention tips for the teacher if you decide to share these.

In this product, Reptiles and Amphibians Adapted Notes and Review, students will learn about reptiles, facts about them will be shared, what reptiles are, the temperature inside a reptile and amphibian's body, facts about amphibians, a life cycle of an alligator, frog and salamander are included in this product. Students will then answer questions regarding each life cycle. Throughout the product, students will answer short answer comprehension questions and fill in the blank questions to ensure comprehension after reviewing notes. At the end of this product, there is a template for students to complete the reptiles and amphibians research report. Students will choose two reptiles and two amphibians and research facts about them, find out where they live, what color they are, how long they live for, and the kind of climate the reptile/amphibian lives in.

This engaging Kindergarten lesson plan introduces young learners to the plant life cycle using a fun, interactive approach. Centered around the educational video “Plant Life Cycle” , the lesson spans 90 minutes and guides students through the key stages of plant growth: seed, sprout, seedling, and flower. With a mix of visuals, storytelling, hands-on activities, and movement, children will explore how plants grow and what they need—sunlight, water, soil, and air.

The lesson includes a lively group discussion, video viewing with guided explanations, and a simple story dramatization to reinforce comprehension. Students will then complete a colorful worksheet filled with matching, coloring, sequencing, and drawing tasks. A creative craft activity using paper plates helps them visualize the plant life cycle in a circular format, reinforcing the concept of growth and renewal.

By the end of the lesson, children will be able to identify and describe each stage in the plant life cycle. The included worksheet and answer key support independent learning and review. This lesson promotes curiosity, fine motor skills, and a love of nature in young learners.

This fun and colorful picture sort is ideal for teaching students about animal classifications and groups! This can be used in a center, for small groups, whole class, or independently! Students are asked to sort animal picture cards into the following categories: mammals, birds, fish, insects, and reptiles/amphibians. Can be modified for younger grades (sorting, matching, grouping) and be used in upper grades (classifications, animal groupings, similar characteristics).

WHAT IS A DIORAMA?

A diorama is a 3D scene designed to depict a particular topic or concept. These miniature scenes are assembled using various materials layered together, often within a shoebox or similar container, to visually represent different aspects of the chosen subject.

Students can construct a diorama by cutting, coloring, painting, and gluing different components inside the box. This allows them to create models that convey specific scenarios like historical events or animals in their habitats. They can enhance their scenes by incorporating natural elements like grass, sand, or twigs.

While these dioramas don't come with strict assembly guidelines, students should familiarize themselves with the subject first and then creatively use provided materials to design their unique diorama. This hands-on activity encourages learning in a fun and engaging way.
