Shoe tying Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes Craft
Unleash creativity and motor skills with this engaging, multi-faceted craft activity inspired by Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes!
This hands-on activity is designed to teach students how to lace and tie knots, focusing on the essential life skill of tying shoes. The lesson begins with a simple knot-tying practice on a fun template, allowing students to grasp the basics of knot formation. Once comfortable, students will progress to a shoe-lacing activity, where they can apply their new skills to lacing and tying shoes.
Creative Sewing Activity: After enjoying the beloved story, students can make Pete's shoes come to life by sewing yarn to create laces on their very own shoe templates. This hands-on project is perfect for developing fine motor skills while allowing students to engage with the story in a tactile way.
Colorful Collage Option: For those who prefer a different creative approach, students can color their shoe template and then add vibrant paper strips as laces. This option encourages artistic expression while letting students experiment with different textures and materials.
Early Finishers Activity: Keep early finishers entertained and engaged with a relaxing coloring sheet of Pete's shoes, giving them the freedom to explore different colors and patterns.

Phonics for Kindergarten and First Grade
By Science and STEAM Team
This phonics book was made with kindergarteners and first graders in mind.
The sounds included are short vowel (cvc), long vowel (cvc silent e), common blends, and digraphs.
Use this journal as you teach different sounds.
After instructing the students have them use the journal to record words that they find while reading. This is particularly good if you use phonics readers / decodable readers. I partner my students up and have them partner read from the reader and record any words that they find at the end of each
page they are reading. This gets the students reading, saying, and discussing the words together! What better practice than that!

Learning to read is one of the most important milestones in a child's education. One of the earliest and most effective strategies for teaching reading is through the use of CVC words. CVC stands for Consonant-Vowel-Consonant. These are simple three-letter words that follow a predictable pattern, making them ideal for young learners and beginner readers.
CVC words help children understand how individual sounds (phonemes) come together to form words. They provide a solid foundation for phonics, blending, and decoding skills. For example, in the word "cat," children can learn to blend the sounds /k/, /a/, and /t/ to read the whole word.
This ebook is designed for early learners, ESL students, and anyone who is beginning their journey into reading and spelling. It includes 50 of the most common CVC words, each with a clear definition and example sentence. Following the word list, you will find a student worksheet with 30 fun and educational exercises that help reinforce the material. Answers are provided at the end for self-assessment or teacher use.
Let the learning begin!

I don't know about you but sometimes I work better with a reference sheet for lessons. I created this quickie template for the Reading Street Intervention program- My SideWalks. I teach in a Resource type setting and don't always teach my own groups. This reference sheet is helpful when I have aides that need to step in to teach. It is also helpful for subs to get a quick idea of how the lesson will be run and what to cover.
