Peer pressure is real and all too common! Teens constantly experience all kinds of peer pressure both in and out of school. Peer pressure can ultimately affect teens' decision-making. It's often hard to navigate difficult situations and say "no," especially when there is a strong human need to fit in and feel important.

This resource focuses on negative peer pressure, providing opportunities for teachers, educators, counselors, and parents to help students:

★ make better decisions when it comes to awkward or difficult situations

★ say "no" when they have to

★ think before they act

★ consider possible consequences of their decisions

Additionally, the scenarios in the activities allow opportunities for you to teach your students exit strategies or ways to say "no" to negative pressures.

Together, you can think through strategies on how to deal with those situations and scenarios if they arise. This can be done by discussing the scenarios and even role-playing. Mystery At The Theme Park is a video based Escape Room activity that is played with a YouTube Video (approximately 20 minutes) and answers are submitted on a Google Form. I envisaged this to be a September week 1 internet activity. It will give students an opportunity to think about how other people perceive them. It could also be used as a lesson in how to search Google effectively or used as a dictionary / thesaurus activity, where students have to find descriptive words in order to search for appropriate pictures on Google Images.

These have been doing the rounds on FaceBook and email recently. You may have received posters / postcards entitled "Teachers...." or "Moms..." and then under the title are a series of photos with captions like;

Each caption is accompanied by an image of what that person thinks about the other person or group of people.

The sample here is of the "Teacher..." postcard. This is NOT what I am selling. I am selling a similar template entitled, "Students..." It is laid out the same as the teacher one with the same titles (the word teacher has been replaced with student), however, the pictures are missing. Students must search Google Images for appropriate pictures that characterize themselves. The photo titles are as follows;

Creating a Student Success Guidebook (brochure project) gives students an opportunity to share their knowledge and tips for success in middle school with the following year’s new incoming class of students. This is perfect for a technology or leadership class, or for a club that focuses on assisting students, such as Student Council. Students work in small teams to research an assigned topic about expectations in middle school, specific to their school. Next, they create one page of a brochure with their information which will finally be combined with the other teams’ pages to create a full brochure that can be published and distributed to incoming students. The project was created for 8th graders but could easily be adapted to use with 5th or 6th graders leaving elementary school and providing tips for success to new elementary students, or could be used by sophomores (or above) in high school to create a success guide for incoming high school freshmen.
