This reading passage examines the short story of a high school boy who shares an embarrassing photo of a girl he doesn’t like, attempting to make her upset. Students will explore the motivations behind his actions and evaluate the way high school students treat one another.

❤️ "Safe Harbor"

This reading passage examines the short story of a girl hiding the fact that she is being bullied from her best friend. Students will study the value of friendship during difficult times and evaluate how bullying can affect relationships.

❤️ "A Different Kind of Torture"

This reading passage examines the short story of a girl reflecting on her experience with cyberbullying. As the severity of her problem increases, students will evaluate the effects of online bullying and the best ways one can deal with it.

Anticipation guides are excellent tools that can be used before reading to activate students' prior knowledge and build curiosity about a new topic and/or to share ideas about key concepts. Students respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived ideas about key concepts as well as their peers’ ideas. The Anticipation Guides can help structure meaningful conversations that reviews what students already know and engages them in critical thinking about the topic they will be exploring. French This or That Activity - Ceci ou Cela French Icebreaker

This French ceci ou cela - this or that activity is perfect for back to school, end of the year, or anytime when everyone wants to have a little fun with French.

Use this "this or that" activity as a French speaking activity for partners or groups, as a whole-class activity you project for the entire class.

Alternatively, you can make this a moving around activity. Students start by standing in a big group. When the choices on the cards are read, they move to the side of the room that is associated with their choice (see the arrows on the cards). Those who can’t make up their mind or don’t have a preference remain in the center. Students will see all of the things that they have in common with their classmates and will likely learn some new vocabulary while they’re at it. This is a great back to school ice-breaker!

This activity requires no teacher prep once the set of cards is printed and cut out. If you don’t want to print, there’s a PDF with only one card per page that you can project and play as a whole class activity.
