This fun activity is great for your students on Earth Day! We all know how students get excited on Valentine's Day! Through this activity, not only will they have fun working together or individually to solve the puzzle, but they will alsohave the opportunity to practice reading the latitude and longitude coordinate grid system (absolute location). Each moment is a teaching moment, and this will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. They will use the absolute locations that are provided on the key and identify the points on the coordinate grid, drawing one line from one point to another. End the end, they have a photo to color and decorate!

Do you struggle to incorporate real-world, authentic reading in your Spanish classroom? This ready-to-use interpretive reading activity about the origins of the Día de los Muertos celebration will get your students reading and analyzing an authentic resource from the Spanish-speaking world.

In this activity, your students will:

  ✅ identify key terms related to el Día de los Muertos

  ✅ determine the main idea of the infographic

  ✅ identify supporting details

  ✅ guess the meaning of selected words based on the context

  ✅ answer comprehension questions

  ✅ compare and contrast traditions

  ✅ write follow-up questions based on the infographic

This reading and writing activity makes a great addition to any Día de los Muertos or holidays unit, from Spanish 2 through AP (as an introduction to the unit). It also makes a great pre-reading activity for an article about Día de los Muertos (there are links to suggested articles in the product) or no-prep substitute lesson.
