This product focuses on the following areas: what nicotine is, where it is found, what tobacco can do, the legal age you need to be so buy and use cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vapes, and use chewing tobacco, the dangers of using tobacco, how nicotine is addictive and harms brain development, what smoking can cause, what a minor is, the meaning of a stimulant, tar, carbon monoxide, smokeless tobacco, and peer pressure. Students will learn about positive peer pressure and negative peer pressure, what they are, and examples of each, secondhand smoke, smokeless tobacco, why you should avoid tobacco, why some people smoke, short-term effects of tobacco - addiction, breathing problems, nicotine and tar stains, odor, cost, fires and burns, and long-term effects of tobacco - heart disease, lung disease, stomach ulcers, wrinkles, and gums/teeth, quitting tobacco use, secondhand smoke and the causes from it, reasons to resist smoking and the importance of following those reasons, resistance skills, review of vocabulary words, and being a health advocate and the importance of doing that.

Mental Health Stigma Activities

This product focuses on the following areas: This product provides students with information regarding stigma. Students will answer questions regarding technology and social media and how they can affect our ability to show compassion to others, why people forget to take care of themselves and show compassion for themselves, how to stop negative thoughts from happening. Students will review the meaning for stigma, stereotype, prejudice, and discrimination. Students will also review what negative things they have heard about people with mental illness, along with positive things. Talking about how others are different and that's what makes them unique, and how others are stigmatized based on how they look, act, etc. Examples of possible stigmas are presented. The meaning of self-stigma and what examples of self-stigma are presented. Students will also review health conditions or social differences that were stigmatized throughout history, and ways to reduce stigma to eliminate negative feelings.
Throughout this product, students will answer comprehension questions and will also be presented with social scenarios that they may encounter where they are asked how they would feel or what they would do. An attitude survey regarding mental health that contains 10 questions is also included in this product. Students will compare their results when they are finished and will go over the correct answers.
This product can be used for 7th - 12th grade students depending on maturity and academic level.

This product focuses on the following areas: This product includes a brief teacher guide that discusses the importance of promoting self-care for mental health and overall well-being, suggestions are provided for short mindfulness exercises for teenagers, emotional responses to various situations that may arise - both positive self-talk and negative self-talk, the importance of being unable to change the situation, but changing the way we think about something and how we feel and act, students will take time to reflect on a time they felt upset about something and what happened when they used both negative and positive-self talk, the importance of our mental health, mood, and motivation are shared, examining unhealthy thinking styles, and recognizing negative-self talk in given situations that relate with jumping to conclusions, personalization, catastrophizing, shoulding, overgeneralization, labelling, emotional reasoning, magnification and minimization (the definition of each is provided along with examples). Students will then write down ways that they would challenge and change their negative self-talk in order for it to become positive self-talk to help improve mental health, mood, and motivation.

Writing an informational paragraph is an important writing project that gives students time to conduct research on a specific topic that is of interest to them. It sets the foundation for having students write an informational essay. Once they are finished with their masterpiece, they can share it with their friends and family members. This packet includes information to share with your students about what informational writing is, why we complete informational writing tasks, what steps to follow when writing the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and conclusion, how to make our writing flow so that it makes sense to the reader, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to complete an informational paragraph. Using this guide, students will write and complete a simple or complex informational paragraph. Writing a play is a perfect project that gives students time to write about an event that happened in their life or an event that they made up. Once they are finished, they can share it with different groups of people and have their friends play each character. This packet includes information to share with your students about what a play is, examples of plays they may see, what steps to follow when writing the beginning, middle and end of a play, and identifying the parts of a play. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write a play using a brainstorming play chart. An example of the play chart and template is also included.
