This pack of 20 Social Skills Scenario Task Cards highlight real-life social scenarios and situations centered around APOLOGIZING and can be used to help young "kiddos" of all levels and abilities (in grades 1-3) to practice and build social skills. These highly relevant scenarios expose young learners to skills they need to interact with others effectively, forge positive relationships, improve social skills and behavior, and most importantly, build confidence in managing situations and apologizing when necessary.

The Task Cards and DIFFERENTIATED Worksheets require students to think about the situation, what happened, how their actions contributed to the problem presented, how the people involved in the situations may be feeling, and what they can do or say to address the problems appropriately. It also provides opportunities for them to understand how certain actions lead to negative consequences (and "hurt" feelings) and recognize the importance of apologizing.

DIFFERENTIATED WORKSHEETS

The 20 scenarios comes in 5 different worksheet formats to ensure that you meet the needs of all your students:

Format #1: Multiple-Choice (20 Worksheets) (Lower-Level)

Students read the scenario and four multiple-choice questions and choose the best answer choice. (There are a total of four multiple-choice questions with three answer choices to choose from.) Also included on this worksheet is an image that reflects the scenario. Students can color in the image for fun! Yay!

Format #2: Fill-In (20 Worksheets) (Mid – Lower Level)

Students read the scenario, then the question stems that consist of a blank line. They will fill in the blanks with the appropriate words. There is a word bank, under the scenario, for students to choose a word from and put it on the blank line.

Format #3: Short Answer (20 Worksheets) (Higher-Level)

Students read the scenario and answer three questions about the scenario. These questions consist of the following:

1. What happened between X and Y?

2. How does X feel and why?

3. What can you do or say to X in this situation?

Format #4: Graphic Organizer (20 Worksheets) (Lower - Higher-Level)

These worksheets consists of two speech bubbles where students read the scenario and are asked to write down what is something they would SAY (in the first speech bubble) and something they would DO (in the second speech bubble) if they were in this situation.

Format #5: “BLANK” Question (20 Worksheets) (Lower / Higher-Level)

These worksheets consist of the scenarios and a “blank” section for you, as the teacher, to generate your OWN questions (based on the scenario) and students write it down and answer it. GREAT FLEXIBILITY!

The Social Skills “Apologizing” Worksheets can be used as part of a larger lesson or in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, or even one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian!

Each worksheet contains amazing, breath-taking page borders, fonts, and clip arts!

TASK CARDS

Additionally, the Task Cards come in 4 different formats: B&W with questions, B&W without questions, Brown with questions, and Brown without questions. You can print them out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate them. You may also organize them in a binder ring and use in small groups.

How/When To Use Scenario Task Cards

  • Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to show how skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
  • Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
  • Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.
  • Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.
  • Discussion: Students can discuss the Social Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider?”

Understanding All Emotions (Session #6)

By Mrs Bell The Crafty Counselor

The Board Game! Teach students how to recognize and respond to emotional situations. Included: 8x10 Game Board 60 Double-Sided Situation Cards Game Guidelines Game Pieces You will need a single dice to play. After teaching each emotion (sad, uneasy, surprised, angry, disgusted, and happy) play this game with your student or small group. Follow the game guidelines and enjoy playing this game with your students. Assembly: Print pages 7-16, double-sided, on cardstock. Laminate for extra durability. When cards speak of emotion words, they are referring to the words used on the posters in the first lesson “Teaching Emotions”. Refer to this if you are teaching the two lessons in conjunction with one another. If you are not, simply ask the student to provide synonyms for the emotions they are describing. Example: Emotion is sad. Emotion words could be blue, upset, fragile, unhappy, down, etc. There are two types of game pieces; flat and pop up. To create the flat pieces, cut on the dotted lines. To create the pop ups, cut on the dotted lines and fold on the solid lines. Feel free to substitute anything you would like for the game pieces. You could use coins, chips, the possibilities are endless, get creative! Game Rules: All players pick a game piece and begin in square #1: The first player rolls a single dice and moves the appropriate amount of spaces (1-6). If they land in a space that does not have a chameleon in it, the next person takes a turn. If they land on a space that has a chameleon on a flower vine, (example space #4, #7, #11, #15, #23, #26, #30, #34, #42), they pick a Situation Card from the pile. They read the situation out loud, and answer all of the questions (one to three questions per Situation Card). If they answer all questions correctly, they follow the worms to a higher space, closer to the food bowl (and the winners circle). If they answer incorrectly they stay put. If they land on a space that has a chameleon on a tree branch, (example space #9, #13, #20, #27, #31, #36, #45, #46) they automatically slide down to the lower level. They then pick a Situation Card, if they answer all parts correctly, they get another turn and roll the dice again. The game is over when someone reaches the winner’s circle. I hope your students have a BLAST with this game!! This is now part of a bundle! Click here for great savings! Mrs. Bell The Crafty Counselor
