The Peer Evaluation Accountable Talk Discussion Rubric is meant for students to use and asses each other during Class Talk. Before beginning a discussion or debate, give each student a Peer Evaluation Rubric with another student’s name on it. (You can decide who will asses who, or you can just randomly write the names on Rubrics). Ask students to “secretly” observe and assess that student’s participation during the class discussion or debate. Students should not know who is assessing who so that evaluations of participation are fair. Throughout the discussion or debate, students will take meaningful notes of their classmates’ performances. At the end of the discussion or debate, give them 5 minutes to score the student whose name is on their Peer Evaluation Rubric. Finally, students can go up to the person they were observing and hand them the rubric. At the very end, the teacher collects the rubrics for review. This has worked so well for me! Students were always “on their toes." Students found it so exciting to be observed by classmates and also observe others.

Students' reflection of classroom talk helps them identify areas and skills that need both improvement and enrichment. These reflection sheets encourage students to reflect about their experiences during collaborative talk and develop an appreciation for particular skills involved. These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. • Four biography writing units about Winston Churchill, Adolf Hitler, Alan Turing and Franklin Roosevelt. These units cover four lessons each and require students to cut out, read and sort facts before writing these up into paragraphs.
• Four informational writing units about an World War I, The Treaty of Versailles, World War II and the Holocaust, . The units have been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately an hour each.
• And one opinion writing unit discussing who was the most influential allied leader between Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin and Franklin Roosevelt.

This Describing Emotions Bundle includes six useful games and resources that can be used in small groups or as whole group guidance activities. Lesson plans are not included in any of the downloads.

Six Activities Included:

Activity #1- Describing Emotions.

What are Emotions? Explanation through posters and a worksheet.

Session #1

Activity #2- Discussing Emotions.

Students are asked to recall and describe emotional scenarios they have previously encountered. This process links arbitrary emotions with situations they have experienced. It makes the emotions understandable and relatable.

Session #2

Activity #3- Working With Emotions.

Understanding your own emotions. Students are given situations and asked to identify the emotions the situation would evoke.

Session #3

Activity #4- The Effects of Emotions.

Students learn that their emotions impact others and that other’s emotions impact them.

Session #4

Activity #5- Recognizing Other’s Emotions.

Walk a Mile in other people’s shoes as we discover how situations affect other people and start to develop empathy.

Session #5

Activity #6- Understanding All Emotions

The board game! Students solidify their understanding of emotions while playing a shoots and ladders type board game.

Session #6

To create these games you will need a printer, laminator (optional), scissors, and a few spare minutes.
