Listening Sheet Star Rating Guides - A reference sheet illustrates the five-star rating system included in most listening sheets. Each frame has a description, with one being "okay" and 5 stars as "Wow!"

Listening Sheets - There are no wrong answers! Students can note how they feel and what they imagine while listening to a selected piece of music. Choose from the musical instruments, nature scenes, colors, and more. There is a space for drawing and several non-musical elements to consider, such as animals and nature.

Weather and Emotions Listening Sheets

Weather is a recurring theme in classical music. Does a musical piece remind the listener of a snowy day or a cheerful sunny afternoon? Students can select the weather symbols that come to mind. Is the music happy or sad? A set of emotional characters allows your group to pick the feelings that best relate to a piece of music.

2 Biography Pages - Fact sheet (1 or 2 facts are already provided, a box to paste/draw the musician's portrait, and a birthday box to color in and decorate cupcakes! A duplicate blank page is included for students to do their own research.

Musician Research Sheet - Students can use their favorite reference materials to compile a full page of facts about the composer's home country. Some of the research options include capital, continent, population, food, and more.

Musician Rating Activity - There are more options to profile the composer on the rating sheet, including which season and musical style they belong to. This can also be used as a listening sheet or as a bulletin board display.

Word Composer Activity - The classic letter puzzle, students can use all the letters from the composer's full name to create new, shorter words and record their scores. Add a timer for an extra challenge.

Canada Black History Month is celebrated annually in February to recognize and honor the contributions and achievements of African Canadians. During this month, there are various activities aimed at educating and inspiring children about the rich history of black Canadians.

For children, writing and reading activities are an engaging way to learn about this important history. Writing activities may include creative writing prompts, journaling, or letter writing to significant historical figures. This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that is based on the key figures that helped to abolish slavery and are studied in the 4th grade curriculum. Students will read about Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Samuel Cornish, William Lloyd Garrison, Sojourner Truth, John Brown, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Beecher Stowe. This activity will have students reading about how each individual aided the abolition movement. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #8. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code.

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

Why is Martin Luther King's birthday celebrated as a national holiday, and who was he? Learn how Martin Luther King Jr. transformed American culture forever by watching this incredibly educational Kids Academy film about this remarkable guy. You will learn about his battle against segregation, a legislation in the United States that prohibited individuals with different skin tones from traveling, studying, or dining together. Some individuals felt it was normal to treat Black people badly, despite the fact that slavery had been abolished over a century earlier. In order to combat this inequality, Martin Luther King began using both words and nonviolent means, and he was successful!

This lesson plan is based on the YouTube video about Martin Luther King Jr.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwZxJEUOvS0. There are various activities for your students to do before, while, and after watching the video. The lesson last 90 minutes and it is designed mostly for Elementary school students. The answer key is included at the end.
