Valentine's Day Social Emotional Activities: Social Problem Solving Scenarios

By The Responsive Educator

Mix up your Valentine's Day classroom routine with our Valentine's Day Social Problem Solving Activity, designed to nurture social and emotional growth in your students.

Swap out the usual holiday routine with these fun social problem-solving scenarios. They're the perfect way to add a touch of social-emotional learning to your Valentine's Day celebration, making it not just sweet but also full of valuable lessons.

CASEL 5 Social-Emotional Competencies: Our scenarios are thoughtfully crafted to ignite discussions around the CASEL 5 social-emotional competencies – Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.

What's Included

  • 3 social problem-solving worksheets, each with 5 different Valentine's Day-related social situations
  • both color and black and white versions

How it Works

  1. Decide if you want students to work independently, with a partner, or in groups. Or have students work alone and then share answers in a class discussion.
  2. Students read each situation, deciding whether the child in the scenario made a good or poor choice. This process encourages critical thinking and reflection on social behaviors.
  3. For good choices, students explain why the decision was positive. For poor choices, students propose alternative ways to handle the situation, sparking meaningful discussions around social skills and empathy.

Sample Valentine's Day Scenarios

  • Michael's Decision: Michael receives a Valentine's Day card from a disliked classmate. He crumples it without acknowledgment.

  • Alex's Response: Overhearing classmates making fun of a homemade Valentine's Day card, Alex joins in to fit in.

  • Casey's Observation: Casey notices a friend looking sad on Valentine's Day and chooses to spend time talking and offering support.

Growth Mindset Digital Journal Prompts - Google Slides and Printable Version

By Kile's Classroom

Digital Writing Prompts for Growth Mindset - Fun and Engaging!

Post the link in Google Classroom, or project the link so your students can make a copy of this Google Slides presentation.

The students open the Google Slides Document “Copy of Growth Mindset Journal” from their Google Drive.

Don't want to use a digital copy? Print the included PDF for your kids!

Each Journal is 10 pages - a total of 20 slides for both the digital and print copy.

Each month the students complete one slide of the Growth Mindset Journal. This can be done in one day, or one section of the journal each week. Instructions for each slide are in the notes section of Google Slides.

At the end of the year, you can print each student’s journal so they can have a hard copy.
