This novel study goes along with E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web. You and your students will go chapter by chapter. Studying the characters, setting, events, point of view, adjectives, text structures (Cause/Effect, Compare/Contrast, and Problem/Solution), and more. It all ends with a watch along with the 2006 live-action movie and a project comparing the movie and the book.

Things that are included in this product are: Completed Lesson Plans for each chapter (also a blank one that is editable), Google Slides to go with each chapter, Doodle notes prompts and organizers for each chapter, End of Chapter activities, Movie Watch Along activity, Assessments, and a Rubric for the project.

Firstly, there are eight reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

• Charlemagne
• William the Conqueror
• King Richard I

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, a crossword and a wordsearch for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are three biography writing units about Charlemagne, Joan of Arc and William the Conqueror. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Also, there is an opinion writing unit about who was the most influential figure from the Middle Ages: Charlemagne, Joan of Arc or William the Conqueror. This unit has again been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Finally, there is a Middle Ages Timeline Activity and Display. It is perfect for introducing students to the some of the key events and people of the period. There are 36 posters or task cards that include many of the key events from the end of the Western Roman Empire until the first voyages to the Americas.

Writing a graphic novel is a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to write about a story idea that interests them, but in graphic novel form. When they are done they can share it with their peers! This product includes information to share with your students about what a graphic novel is, why do we write a graphic novel, rules to follow when writing a graphic novel, the parts of a graphic novel that are necessary to include along with examples. This product includes an example showing the process that is used to write a graphic novel and the steps that are taken and what to include in a graphic novel so that it includes a beginning, middle and end.
