This 146-page unit will provide you with content, activities, projects, rubrics, simulations and discussion prompts necessary to engage your students for upwards of 2 months in a series of learnings, research and projects which will ultimately have them creating solutions for real world problems relating to food waste, energy sources, importing and exporting and the choices we make relative to our consumption.
Following a cross-curricular approach, I include step-by-step details, thorough lesson plans that will have you and your students deeply exploring some big concepts, connecting subjects, digging deeper, and thinking critically about sustainability and the future of our planet.
Within this mega-resource, you'll find two parts:
A 57-page teaching guide including a brief overview of the unit, the outcomes you'll be covering, detailed and thorough lesson plans for each day, all assignments, graphic organizers, stations, debates, simulations, answer keys, and rubrics. Many additional projects are recommended and explained for each of the major sections in addition to the lesson plans I provide. It includes printables for all games and activities, research, projects, and success criteria.

CHINA GEOGRAPHY: ONE CHILD, TWO CHILD, THREE CHILD OR MORE, POPULATION POLICIES

Your students will love this lesson, from 6th grade to 12th grade. The PowerPoint is included in the Zip File.
In 1980, China enforced the One-Child Policy Act to due to overpopulation issues as a result of Mao Zedong's policies, as he competed with Russia for power. Once he dies in 1979, China had to look at the population issues as there was a shortage of housing and resources— and they were continuing to multiply. Something had to be done, so the government enforce Martial Law and only allowed families to have one child.

However, now the One-Child Policy has created a downward shift in population, and as the older generation dies, the population is declining at significant rates. In 2016, to encourage population growth, China's government put in to play the Two-Child Policy pleading with its citizens, "Please have a second child". When that wasn't working, in 2021, they pass a Three-Child Policy.
This lesson examines and compares China's Child Policy Acts throughout the years and their effectiveness, also giving students the opportunity to provide their opinion of various scenarios.
OBJECTIVES:
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
GROUP READING ACTIVITY: (15-20 MINUTES)
Divide students into groups/teams of three. Give each team member an article to read:
DEBATING CHINA’S CHILD POLICIES CLASS ACTIVITY (POWERPOINT)
Students will be given various scenarios via PowerPoint to which they will "Agree" or "Disagree". They will work with their classmates to present reasons for their decision.

Intro to Economics: Needs V. Wants

An engaging way to begin a unit on economics! This fun and hands-on activity will have students explore the important concepts of human needs versus wants through an engaging rocket ship simulation. Students will be vicariously drawn into an emergency situation in which they must collaborate, and agree as to what items they consider as ‘essential’ for their survival on their rocket ship mission to live on a far away planet. An interactive Slide Presentation will help guide the groups on their journey… along with prompting students to delve deeper by examining the broader issues of sustainability, waste, and identifying the main differences between ‘developed’ and ‘developing’ countries.
