This lesson on honesty and lying is ideal for your elementary school students. Of course, at times, our children tell lies on purpose. But, sometimes, children do not realize they are lying because they have not been taught the differences between the various types of lies. Teach all about the types of lying and why it can be harmful with this unique and engaging activity.  

“Types of Lies Town” is an interactive activity used to introduce students to the six types of lies. This activity allows children a safe and structured way to learn about the negative consequences of lying and a chance to reflect on their own behaviors and habits. 

Students will “take a tour” of the town and visit six different streets to learn the definitions, stories, and examples of the various types of lies.

Through interactive games and exercises, participants reinforce the importance of making constructive choices in dealing with their anger.

4.Session 4: Helping and Hurting Hands (Physical Aggression) - The fourth session introduces the concept of helping and hurting hands, focusing on addressing physical aggression. Children engage in interactive activities designed to explore alternatives to physical aggression and learn how to express their anger safely.

5.Session 5: Dragon Breaths (Deep Breathing) - In Session 5, deep breathing is presented as an effective coping strategy for anger management. Through activities like "Dragon Breaths," participants practice deep breathing techniques, empowering them to control their emotional responses constructively.

6.Session 6: Keep Your Cool Calming Strategies, Termination, and Review - The program culminates in the sixth session, where children learn various calming strategies to manage their anger, including visualization, counting, or using a designated "calm down" corner. This final session also serves as an opportunity for participants to review what they've learned throughout the program. To reinforce their newly acquired skills, children engage in a creative "cool down ice-cream craft," making this curriculum not only informative but fun and memorable.

This empathy lesson is the perfect addition to your elementary school counseling curriculum if you are looking to focus on teaching empathy in a fun and engaging way!

In this elementary school counseling empathy lesson, students will target their understanding of feelings and emotions. Students choose a discussion card, identify the highlighted emotion by sliding the sunglasses up or down, and then discuss how the particular situation on their card would make them feel.

This activity is GREAT for small groups and will allow your students to identify emotions and discuss how they think others might feel in this situation as well.

  6. Session 6 - Gratitude: Gratitude is the focus of this session, encouraging students to cultivate a positive mindset. They explore the concept of gratitude and engage in activities to foster appreciation for the present moment.

  7. Session 7 - Termination and Review: The final session serves as an opportunity for students to review their mindfulness journey throughout the program. They reflect on their progress and discuss how they plan to incorporate mindfulness into their daily lives moving forward.

Understanding Emotions Activities

In this product, students will discuss what to ask for help for oneself and others. Students will identify and express a variety of feelings, common emotions that students feel, compare their emotions to a roller coaster ride and why that may happen, examples of emotional highs and emotional lows, when we feel emotional highs and lows, we may feel more pressure, and as students grow and develop – they need to deal with pressure. When students feel pressured, they can read the list of healthful ways to handle pressure, the list of feelings that it is okay to feel, what it is never okay to do, feelings and their definitions are included: embarrassment, depression, awkwardness, isolation, confusion, disappointment, hopefulness, optimism, happiness, and excitement. The importance of controlling emotions, suggestions for handling emotions are provided, mood swings, feeling pressure, and irritability are discussed. Students will be presented with different situations where they are required to identify the feeling, helpful ways to deal with the feeling, and harmful ways to deal with the feeling. Transition from elementary to middle school and adolescence are discussed and reviewed. Better techniques that can be used to form healthful relations are taught. Gossiping and annoying behaviors are reviewed and why they are frowned upon is included in this product. Students will also identify emotions, have students describe their own feelings and act out emotions. 10 emotion scenarios are provided for students to identify how students would feel if they were in that situation, students will track their emotions in a 7 day journal that is provided in this packet, coping skills are discussed and how they help us handle emotions in productive and positive ways, so our actions match our behavior, a list of poor coping skills is included along with healthy coping skills. Comprehension questions are asked throughout this product for students. They can be answered individually or as a group and can also be used as a group discussion. A teacher’s guide along with tips and activities is included with this product.

This product can be used for 5th - 8th grade, but can be used for younger or older students depending on maturity and academic level.

Comprising of EIGHT SESSIONS tailored to address specific aspects of anger-related issues, this program equips students with essential life skills:

  1. Session 1: Welcome & Introduction to Anger Management Students are introduced to the group's purpose and the importance of anger management. Expectations for the coming weeks are discussed.
  2. Session 2: Recognizing Physical and Emotional Responses This session focuses on identifying the physical and emotional signs of anger in themselves, a crucial step in managing anger effectively.
  3. Session 3: Triggers and Warning Signs Students explore various triggers and warning signs that lead to anger, helping them proactively manage their reactions.
  4. Session 4: In and Out of My Control The concept of control and responsibility in anger management is explored. Students differentiate between what they can control and what they cannot.
  5. Session 5: Problem Solving Effective problem-solving techniques for addressing anger-provoking issues are taught. The session emphasizes the importance of resolving problems constructively.
  6. Session 6: Helpful vs Unhelpful Thoughts Students learn to recognize how their thoughts can escalate or defuse anger, distinguishing between helpful and unhelpful thought patterns.
  7. Session 7: Coping Skills Participants are introduced to a range of coping skills and strategies for managing anger, teaching practical techniques for staying calm in challenging situations.
  8. Session 8: Termination & Review In the final session, students review key concepts and skills acquired throughout the program. They reflect on their progress and set goals for managing anger in the future.

Once students act out the social story, they will be required to answer questions such as what would you do if you were in this situation?, what would you say to your friend in this situation?, what could you say to your friend to help them feel better in this situation?, what would you want your friend to say to you to help you feel better in this situation? why shouldn't you do something if placed in this situation, etc. along with many other questions that students can work together or independently when answering.
