This is a novel study of Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. In this product, there are completed lesson plans (and a blank one if you need to write your own), a slideshow that includes everything for each chapter (introduction, review of content, copy of the doodle notes, copy of the end of chapter activity/discussion outline, and the closure question), the Doodle Notes outline for each chapter, and the End of Chapter/Discussion activities. This novel study is for 4th-grade to 7th-grade students.

In this novel study, students will practice central idea/supporting details, writing summaries, citing evidence from a text, making inferences, analyzing figures of speech, describing story elements, cause/effect text structure, problem/solution text structure, and multiple opportunities to practice discussions with their classmates.

A large part of this novel study is discussion-based. I have included a slide on the slideshow where you will put your classroom expectations for discussions. There are also times for the introduction to the chapter, you will start with a whole group discussion. (I would maybe recommend turn and talks if you use groups in your classroom)

This is a watch along to go with Disney and Pixar's Finding Dory. The students will describe 4 characters using adjectives, analyze how Dory's character trait impacts the story, and how Hank's character impacts other characters in the story.

Use this graphic organizer to help students retell any story. Students will practice retelling only the most important parts of a story. Each section - Beginning, Middle, and End has a box for an illustration as well.

Description: This template can be paired with any writing prompt found on the internet! Students are meant to choose a writing prompt and glue it on their Creative Writing Worksheet. They may write during any of their free time. If the students meet the requirements dictated on the rubric, they can earn up to five extra credit points toward their writing grade! You do not have to use every worksheet in this packet to teach the unit. Some worksheets will seem to cover the exact same concept, only slightly different. • This product contains templates to help students write an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion for an Expository Research Writing project on animals. The introduction has students begin with an interesting lead and include sentences with general and specific sentences on appearance, habitat, diet, life cycle, and predators. There are two introduction templates on one page. This page will simply need to be cut in half so that an introduction can be given to two students per page. The body paragraph template has space for four paragraphs with main idea titles and spaces for key words that will be turned into sentences. The key words will be found and highlighted in their research prior to filling out this template. This page will need to be printed front and back. Remind students to add transition words when they write their final draft. The conclusion has a blank for a transition word, which has helped my students remember to put one. It also contains three spaces for summary sentences and one space for a final feeling sentence to close the report. There are other instructions included in this packet.

I don’t know about you, but I love having options! Because of that, I have worked to provide different leveled newspaper templates.
