Festive way to make connections:

Students read or watch A Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, my students read A Christmas Carol and watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas, for an engaging activity before the holiday. A Christmas Carol was a challenge for the students, so watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a fun distraction.

This active and engaging resource gets students moving and discussing. Students will make paper snowballs out of the provided cards. They will then use these for a snowball fight. When time is up, students will find a partner, uncrumple the paper, and have a discussion.

Students can reach connections and have discussions with the information they gather.

In yoga, the Yamas & Niyamas are a moral code of conduct, a guideline for how to live. Together, the Yamas & Niyamas help us to make careful decisions about how to think, speak, and behave. This foundational thinking prepares children to form healthy relationships with themselves and others.

FREE! Decipher the context clues and symbols to figure out the words to famous Christmas movie titles, such as: Elf Night Before Christmas Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Santa Claus is Coming to Town Frosty the Snowman Nutcracker Home Alone White Christmas Little Drummer Boy Polar Express Plus, have fun writing your own inferencing and logic Christmas movie puzzle at the end. Fun activity for small/whole group with colorful illustrations and Answer Key (at end).

These are fake Instagram posts that have pictures of activities. One post shows the activity happening in the present and the other post shows the activity either finished or happening in the past. The teacher will need to cut out the Instagram posts and the text boxes. Then the students will need to place the descriptions (inside the text boxes) with the correct Instagram post. The majority of the practice with this activity is focused on past tense, but there is also present and future tense.

**An extension for the activity is to have the students underline and identify the verb that shows the tense of the sentence.**

This can be used for multiple grade levels and would be a great support activity for upper elementary and middle school students who need practice with verb tenses (especially past tense).

An Escape Room activity looking at the Lewis & Clark Expedition across the United States. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about the Lewis & Clark Expedition and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards that cover key events of the 1800s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

✮ English months, days, and seasons game - I have...Who has? ✮

This version includes 27 cards. Depending on class size you could either give each student more than one card or have them play with a partner. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again. This is a great resource for ESL or any classroom where English is spoken.

Here's how this game works. Once each student has a card (or cards), the one who has the card that says I'll start the game begins the game. He says, for example, I'll start the game. I have May. Who has Autumn? The person who has the card with autumn on it says, I have autumn. Who has Thursday? And so the game goes on until the last card is called and that student's card will say, The game is over!

Another idea is to prepare two sets of cards, divide your class into two groups and let each group have a go to see which team can get through the entire deck of cards the fastest. It's a lot of fun, and though you can play with younger students the older ones love this game just as much.
