This engaging activity will have students practicing their geometry skills while they work their way through stations using pi to solve problems. Students will be directed to color areas of a color sheet with specific colors based on their answers.

I allow students to use calculators on this activity when we are short on time. There are opportunities to practice working with decimals.

Solve WORD PROBLEMS involving AREA AND CIRCUMFERENCE OF CIRCLES with this engaging, independent Pi Day math activity! 7th Grade CCSS.7.G.B.4

Directions for Use:

*Students will be given the Word Problem page along with the Pi Symbol Page. These may be printed front to back if you choose.

*Students will answer the first question on their Word Problem page. This will lead them to one of the dots on their Pi Symbol page. They will make a straight line from the dot next to the answer for #1 to the dot that is next the answer to #2 (then from #2 to #3). They will start a new sequence of lines for each set.

*I recommend reading aloud the directions on the paper but also reiterate what was stated above so students truly understand the process of this activity.

*Allow students to decorate and color.

This activity includes shapes with two columns. One for students to find the correct numbers substituted into the formula correctly, and one with the final answer (area or missing side length). There are several distractor cards that do not match with any of the problems so students have to pay careful attention to make sure they are choosing the correct card.

This also includes an independent follow up worksheet that does not come with cards so students have to write in the formula and answer. It also has several challenging extension problems for students/groups who finish early.
