Parts of Speech Middle/High School ELAR | Lesson | Quiz | Activities | Games

By Blooming Through High School

Learning the Parts of Speech for High School and Middle School - while this might one of those building blocks for lower levels, students still need a refresher.

Why is this important?

  • Common Vocabulary - When talking about the structure of a sentence, students and teachers need a common vocabulary.
  • Improve student writing - when students see how adverbs and adjectives create vivid sentences, you can prompt them to work them in.
  • Structure Matters - when talking about what's wrong with a sentence, we have to examine the elements that go into it.

What's Included:

  • Powerpoint Lesson covering the basics
  • Guided Student Lecture Notes during the lesson
  • In-Class Games
  • Anchor Charts for Class & Notebooks
  • 3 Pages of Practice
  • 2 Student Activities are digital
  • 1 Quiz (PDF & Google)

Looking to the Past: Verb Tense Activity - Instagram Themed

By A Teachers Sidekick

These are fake Instagram posts that have pictures of activities. One post shows the activity happening in the present and the other post shows the activity either finished or happening in the past. The teacher will need to cut out the Instagram posts and the text boxes. Then the students will need to place the descriptions (inside the text boxes) with the correct Instagram post. The majority of the practice with this activity is focused on past tense, but there is also present and future tense.

**An extension for the activity is to have the students underline and identify the verb that shows the tense of the sentence.**

This can be used for multiple grade levels and would be a great support activity for upper elementary and middle school students who need practice with verb tenses (especially past tense).

I hope you enjoy it. Please rate and review.

SPANISH SCATTEGORIES: ¡Páreme la mano!

By La Llama Bilingüe

Scattegories is a fun and challenging board game that tests your creativity and quick thinking. I have recreated a classroom version for SPANISH LEARNERS called: ¡PÁREME LA MANO! also called in other countries, TUTTI FRUTI o PARA EL FUEGO. This is a fun game we used to play in school growing up in South America. I have tried in my own classroom and kids LOVE IT! This is such a great game to practice vocabulary and parts of the speech.

This product contains two versions of this game. One for individual play and one for a group game. There are a set of rules for both games but these are just suggested rules as you can set your own depending of the group of kids you teach. Kids will only need a dice, a white board marker and a wiper.

Schiffe versenken German Verb Conjugation Battleship

By Miss Clever Cookie

My favourite game to practice German verb conjugations (schwache, starke, trennbare, reflexive, Misch-, Modalverben, Verben auf -eln und -ern**.** It can be used in any tense. No prep, just PRINT AND GO.

This is my go-to game when I need to drill some grammar into my students. It's by far the most efficient grammar game. I love it because it's so easy to use. And my students love it because it doesn't feel like learning when, in fact, they do a TON of learning. We can easily spend the whole lesson playing battleship and they want to keep on playing even after the bell rings.

It's also a great activity for substitute lessons or when I'm in a time press and don't have much time to prepare for a lesson.

How to play:

  • It can be played in pairs or in small teams
  • Hide your ships in the left field. They mustn't touch.
  • Form sentences in order to "hit" the enemy ships in the right field.
  • If your enemy hits your ship, indicate that in the left field. If you hit your enemy's ship, mark it down in the right field. If you miss, mark it down as well. If you hit your enemy's ship, have another go.
  • To win, sink all of your enemy's ships before he sinks yours.
