It’s so important that we learn how to respond to others in an effective way. As educators, we often see our students struggle to communicate with empathy and respect. Being able to have constructive conversations is an essential skill for our students to learn.

This resource equips teachers with practical suggestions for a positive approach to communication. Too often we see our students wrestling with ways to talk to each other that are socially sensitive. Especially in times of conflict, we want to provide our students with productive ways to verbalize their thoughts and feelings. It’s critical that our students learn to listen to each other while also feeling heard.

Responding to others with constructive words is a beneficial skill for our middle and high school students to learn. This ability to talk to others kindly is a life skill they will need in their daily life not just as kids and teenagers but into the future too.

This resource features a total of 10 different communication scenarios with an example of a "rude" or "mean" response statement. (Statements also have negative tones). Students must read the scenarios (or situations) and the "rude/mean/negative-toned" response statements provided TO FRIENDS and:

Giving and Accepting compliments are a great social skill required for life! This is a whole class program which can be implemented to support the classroom to be unified, peaceful, develop pro-social behaviours and learn to reinforce and encourage positive anti-bullying classrooms which embrace individuality.

How does this program work? Included is pages where all the students names are included. The students choose a person (whose name is not crossed out yet) and write them a compliment on one of the pages. They then cross their name out of the list so that people are not doubling up! Simple write them a compliment and give the book to them! And this continues until all the students give and receive a like and admire compliment! • Put students into groups or breakout rooms of 4-6 students
• Go over the directions with students:

How does media effect one's self esteem?

This package contains 6 lessons and a culminating task that will address this topic.

The package is meant to be taught over at least five lessons. With discussion, each page should easily fill a 45- to 60-minute lesson block.
