Students will also learn about where the Oregon-California Trail started and where it ended, the route that was taken if travelers on the East coast wanted to travel West and the continent they would travel around, what travelers had to do/and how long they had to wait for their turn to look for gold, how many people searched for gold in 1848 and 1849, how searching for gold was easy and then it became more challenging as more time went on, how and why the population of California increased and decreased during and after the California Gold Rush, how much money in gold was found in the American River during The California Gold Rush.

Adapted notes are provided along with an independent review after each slide. Students will be required to fill in the blanks using a key, answer short answer questions without a key, complete multiple choice questions, and look at a graph and answer short answer questions.

Students can complete the review independently, with support, or it can be used as an assessment as well.

In this product, students will learn about the 19th Amendment, what it is, the timeline as to how the 19th Amendment was put into effect and just how long it took. Information about the process it took and how it was rejected by different parts of the government is shared ranging from 1878 to the November 1920 election, what the women's suffrage movement was, who was involved, and what they did, President Woodrow Wilson, Harry Burn, Senator Aaron A. Sargent, Ellen Clark Sargent, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony and the role that each of them had in the passing of the 19th Amendment, students will learn about Congress - the Senate and the House of Representatives, and will briefly learn about the 3 Branches of Government to help students understand which branch helped pass the 19th Amendment, students will briefly learn about who was involved in World War I and what happened at the end of World War I, why women became involved in World War I, what their roles were in World War I, what jobs women had during this time, and how this lead to the 19th Amendment. Students will also learn about how the 19th Amendment in 1869 was different from 1920 and why, how the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was important as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, students will also learn about when women could vote in 15 states from 1869 - 1918, and the first states to ratify the 19 Amendment.

The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. Throughout the product, after each page of notes is reviewed, students will answer short answer comprehension questions and multiple choice questions to review what was discussed on previous pages. At the end of the product, students are provided with a review that includes multiple choice questions and short answer questions.

In this product, students will learn about the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and North and South Notes and Review. Vocabulary covered: raw materials, free states and slave states as of 1820, trains, factories, Eli Whitney, cotton, and slaves. A vocabulary review is included as well as a fill in the blank vocabulary review that includes a key.

Students will learn about the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and North and South Notes and Review. The United States government will be initially reviewed to review who Congress and the Senate is, but the House of Representatives and the three branches of government. The North and South are reviewed in this product that includes the years between 1820 - 1860.

The North: What was used at this time to run machines, who owned machines, how machines were powered, how and why cities started to develop, how raw materials and factories relate with one another, the use of the railroad brought factory products to people, working conditions in factories, and changes in cities that took place

The South: Cotton was growing on plantations and farms in the South, who worked on these plantations, how plantations grew and who worked on these farms, who invented the cotton gin, what the cotton gin did and how it was different from removing seeds by hand and how much time was saved, what cotton was known for in the South, who worked on plantations and how they were treated, and the kind of work slaves were required to do in the South.

The Missouri Compromise:

In 1820, how many states were free states and how many states were slave states. The argument that the North and South had with each other about wanting Missouri to be on their side and why, what people wanted in the North and what people wanted in the South after the Missouri Compromise, why the North and South were divided, which states became free states and slaves states between 1820-1850, the Compromise of 1850 and what it entailed, and when slavery ended.

The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. Throughout the product, after each page of notes is reviewed, students will answer short answer comprehension questions. They will expand upon the first settlements in Jamestown and Plymouth, and will dive into learning about the 13 colonies, students will learn how the 13 colonies are alike, how William Penn helped the colonists and how he formed a relationship with the Indigenous Peoples, the New England Colonies, where they were located, the biggest city in the New England Colonies, how farming was difficult in this area and why, the short growing season of crops, and how they found food, how people earned a living in this colony, the Middle Colonies and how they had rich farmlands available to them, what kinds of crops were grown in this area, the kinds of jobs that people had, why beavers were so important in this colony and what they did with their fur, Philadelphia and how it was developing so much quicker than New York and why, William Penn and what he did when he started the colony of Pennsylvania, what made New York's population increase and how it became the biggest city in the Middle Colonies, the Southern Colonies, the biggest city being Charleston, the kinds of goods that came into the Charleston harbor, what plantations were, the kinds of jobs that were on plantations, the crops that were grown, how plantations needed many slavery, brief introduction to slavery and how they were forced to work on plantations in the south, the frontier, the western edge of the 13 colonies, how entire families needed to work to survive and why, and the kinds of work that frontier settlers needed to do.

The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. After reviewing and discussing the notes, there are fill in the blank questions with the missing vocabulary words and a key to help locate answers. Students will also answer comprehension questions to review what was discussed on previous pages, and a chart about the 13 colonies and why they were settled and when. European Explorer Scavenger Hunter (No Prep!)

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that is based on European explorers that are studied in the 4th grade curriculum. Students will read about Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de León, Jacques Cartier, John Cabot, Henry Hudson, Giovanni da Verrazzano, Hernando de Soto, and Samuel de Champlain. This activity will have students reading about what country the explorer sailed for, what part of the Americas they explored and how their exploration affected later colonization or knowledge of the Americas. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #8. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code.

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

How does it work?

Your students will work to complete 4 Language Arts-based tasks about Veterans Day in order to learn more about this important holiday and about the veterans of our proud country.

  • Veterans Day Fun Facts: In the first task, students will read 8 facts about Veterans Day and must identify the parts of speech of underlined words within the passages.

  • O Say, Can You See: In the second task, students read "The Star-Spangled Banner" and match poetic devices within the song to their definitions.

  • Veteran-Spiration: In the third task, students read 8 quotes about veterans and patriotism and must identify the incorrectly spelled word in each sentence.

  • Jig Saw Quote: In the fourth task, students must assemble a jig saw puzzle that, once completed, will reveal a quote about veterans. Once students bring this to you, they have completed the activity!

It is encouraging that the teacher removes or mutes the free song included in the PowerPoint and plays Billy Joel's 1989 Hit: We Didn't Start The Fire, which depicts major events and people who influence the 20th Century written about in Joel's song.

NOTE: The song on the PowerPoint is a free song, but can be removed or muted in order to play Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire, easily downloaded on iTunes or can be obtained using Pandora or Spotify. Legality reason will not allow one to sell a copyrighted song in their materials.
