I have your back. I've been teaching math and computer science, including APCSP, APCSA, and Data Structures for almost two decades. I also teach an introduction course. This is part of the course I made up for my intro students. I have a BS in computer science and know what students need to know.
This is part 5 of an introductory Programming in Java course. These lessons are meant to be done over a few days; the idea is to get students doing cool stuff as fast as possible. With Java, that is NOT an easy task.

Engineering Ethics - Exploring Case Studies

This career unit gives students an introduction to the engineering ethics using a variety of case studies for student analysis. This is perfect for middle school or high school engineering, career, technology, CTE or business classes.
The included PowerPoint presentation can be used by the teacher for whole class instruction, or provided to the students electronically (or as a printout) for them to review individually. Students work with a partner or in small groups to analyze engineering cases that dealt with ethical concerns. Resources for the six cases are included in the PowerPoint and as printable or digital task cards. The activity can be completed on the computer or without computer access if the teacher prefers by printing out the linked information. Students use critical thinking skills and teamwork to research and analyze the cases and then answer questions to consider the different ethical issues and choices. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with high school students.

Writing a play is a perfect project that gives students time to write about an event that happened in their life or an event that they made up. Once they are finished, they can share it with different groups of people and have their friends play each character. This packet includes information to share with your students about what a play is, what steps to follow when writing the beginning, middle and end of a play, why we write a play, who we write a play for, and tips to look for when rereading and editing. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write with a play using a graphic organizer and an example of a play. On the last several pages, two templates are included to help students write the rough draft and final draft of their play that includes space for characters, props, act, scenes, and lines to show what their characters are saying.

This is a 10-15 day CROSS CURRICULUM lesson! It includes tasks from Math, LA, Science, Art, Social Studies, and more! There are two different videos that I have included.
The scenario: we have to leave Earth because of pollution. Students are part of the New Beginnings Mission and they must settle a colony on a new planet. Tasks include map making, decimal multiplication, scale drawings, team building, geometric drawings, research, measurement conversions, and more. It is presented in PowerPoint format. The first slide is an overview. All worksheets are included as slides that can be printed. There are also instructions included in the notes section of each slide.

Any Novel Reading Journal Project-Alternative Book Report

Students will write out a monologue individually and as a group will write the body of the script. After the groups have resolved their problem, each group member will have a chance to reflect on how their character feels after the resolution of the problem. This activity would be appropriate for middle school students. This package will provide your students with hours of entertainment that include opportunities to write and showcase their creativity. For teachers, it provides great opportunities to teach script writing, assess writing samples, dramatic performances, and to foster group cooperation.

Are you math teacher and have been thrown into teaching a computer science course? Now you have NO IDEA where to start! Have you taught computer science, but want to try something else? Math and computer science are related, but are not the same!
I have your back. I've been teaching math and computer science, including APCSP, APCSA, and Data Structures for almost two decades. I also teach an introduction course. This is part of the course I made up for my intro students. I have a BS in computer science and know what students need to know.
This is part 6 of an introductory Programming in Java course. These lessons are meant to be done over a few days; the idea is to get students doing cool stuff as fast as possible. With Java, that is NOT an easy task.

Depending on your style, you could go over the slides as a group, then let students play around. Or you could just give them the slides and assignment and let them go.
Let students explore and make mistakes. Let them talk to each other and discuss their approaches. Programming takes a lot of trial and error and collaboration.

Writing a biography is a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to learn about someone that interests them and share it with their peers! This packet includes information to share with your students about what a biography is, why do we write a biography, and rules to follow when writing a biography. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write a biography and the steps that are taken to add onto a biography to be sure it includes a beginning, middle and end. On the last few pages, it includes a template to help students come up with possible story ideas, add onto each paragraph they will include in their biography, and a reference sheet. Space to write a rough draft as well as a final draft is included.

Are you looking for a different approach to using the Scientific Method/ Engineering Design Process? “Can They Do That?” is a "TV-show type" series that presents things made in the movies/television and challenges the students to prove or disprove "Can They Do That?" This first episode looks at a hot air balloon contraption built out of hair dryers and trash bags on the A-Team.
Students start the lesson by watching a clip from a TV show (included in PowerPoint). They are presented with a “problem” by the TV Show Host and then they work through the EDP.
This lesson includes the Video Introduction embedded in a PowerPoint with a Student Handout that guides students research, prototype and solution.
