Una historia, dos voces: Descubriendo la subjetividad - Grados 5-8

By Mark Holmes

✅ These fun, real-life Self-Control Scenarios allow students to discuss a variety of situations and brainstorm effective solutions to otherwise difficult situations. It's a great opportunity for students to reflect about their own behaviors and emotions in different social situations and consider strategies they can use to help them manage their emotions and respond appropriately. These scenarios can foster some great discussions!

*******************************

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate difficult situations associated with anger and self-control. Students can practice and learn the variety of ways they can handle situations that test their ability to control their actions and behaviors. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.

Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.

Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.

Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations. They can evaluate whether or not their approaches to solving problems (despite feelings of anger, frustration, betrayal, etc.) is appropriate or inappropriate and offer other possible solutions and/or suggestions on how to best handle difficult situations and cope with these emotions.

Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like "What can you do to control your emotions, behavior, actions, etc.", "What healthy coping skills can you use to calm down in situations that make you angry?", etc.

10 All About Me Worksheets _with g_raphics

10 All About Me Worksheets without graphics

*******************************

Please note, this resource includes two version worksheet sets: one with graphics and one without any graphics, since some districts may have strict guidelines. Both versions include print and digital versions - WHOOP WHOOP! I want to make sure you are able to use this resource without any issues!

*******************************

This "All About Me" resource goes beyond the "What is your favorite color?" "Who is your best friend?" "How many siblings do you have?", etc. Instead, this resource includes questions that gives you access into your students' minds and develop an understanding of what their thinking is like, what their deepest thoughts are, how they feel about themselves, what makes them happy, what makes them sad, how they view and feel about themselves, something they often question about life, what keeps them up at night, etc.

These worksheets ask more higher level reflection questions that they have probably never considered like: "How do I view myself?" "What do I need to change about myself?" "What are my fears are?" "Do I love myself? Why or why not?" and "Something I wish I could have done differently" - type questions.

Yes, there are very few basic questions (as I considered lower-level students when creating these worksheets), but most questions are intended to capture students' inner thoughts and feelings about life and about themselves - the "REAL" them. This resource provides an opportunity for you to really know WHO THEY ARE!

⭐ The graphics, fonts, and borders in these worksheets are so visually appealing, your students will love them!

⭐ This resource is also included in Google Slides! Text boxes have already been created to make it easier for you and your students! Each slide includes two instruction solution tabs for when students accidentally delete text boxes and when they want to zoom in (to enlarge worksheets). It's super helpful for students who are not that familiar with how to use Google Slides or need the extra assistance.

******************************************************

Most students have cell phones and communicate with family, friends, and classmates through text messaging. Just about ALL students are familiar with text messaging. Why not teach and practice the skill of inferencing in such a way that appeals to their interests?! No student will be able to resist these activities - for real! This is such a POWERFUL resource as it allows the opportunity for students to practice the skill of inferencing using text message conversations. All worksheets and all questions require students to make inferences and cite evidence to support their answers.

There is a detailed ANSWER KEY for every worksheet that lists possible valid inferences and relevant evidence that can be made for these conversations.

**********************************

DESCRIPTION

▶️ This product includes 10 Text Conversation Worksheets with three questions, and 10 Text Conversation Worksheets without questions. There is a blank question box where you can generate your OWN question and students write it in the box! This allows flexibility and the opportunity for you to write a question based on your students' levels and needs - Whoop Whoop!

▶️ BOTH variations include print and digital versions!

▶️ This resource is absolutely AMAZING for even struggling readers and lower level students who have a short attention span and/or are unable to keep their focus reading other longer texts.

▶️ The text message conversations and topics are age appropriate, HIGHLY relevant, familiar, and FUN! Students will easily identify with some of the "people" engaging in these text conversations. It would be interesting to see what students can infer and how they will respond to such conversations.

▶️ The graphics in the "visually pleasing" worksheets clearly resemble cell phones that students use today. They even include real text bubbles and emojis!

▶️ Students will be able to make inferences about people's personality traits, situations, problems, feelings, and backgrounds. The questions are unique to the text message conversations and are not the same/standard.

▶️ You can use these Inference Text Message Conversation Worksheets as part of a larger lesson, during a mini lesson, guided practice, independent work, as a pair or groupwork activity, small groups (to review the inferencing skill), and even for homework or practice!

▶️ This resource is also included in Google Slides! Text boxes have already been created to make it easier for you and your students! Each slide includes two solution tabs for when students accidentally delete text boxes and when they want to zoom in (to enlarge worksheets). It's super helpful for students who are not that familiar with how to use Google Slides or need the extra assistance.

*********************************

Peer pressure is real and all too common! Teens constantly experience all kinds of peer pressure both in and out of school. Peer pressure can ultimately affect teens' decision-making, behaviors, attitudes, and outlook on life. It's often hard to navigate difficult situations and say no, especially when there is a strong human need to fit in and feel important.

This resource focuses on negative peer pressure, providing opportunities for teachers, educators, counselors, and parents to:

help students make better decisions when it comes to awkward or difficult situations

help students say "no" when they have to

help students set and communicate social boundaries

help students consider the possible consequences of choices

help students build confidence

Additionally, these scenarios allow opportunities for you to teach your students exit strategies or ways to say "no" to negative pressures. Together, you can think through strategies on how to deal with those scenarios if they arise. This can even be done by discussing the scenarios and role-playing. It is helpful to think about these things ahead of time rather than dealing with situations as they occur or trying to recover after they happen.

The scenarios encourage students to think about and practice how to:

  • navigate difficult situations and challenges with peers and close friends
  • practice and suggest ways to say no
  • have difficult conversations with the very people they spend a great deal of time with
  • build confidence in managing their emotions
  • handle challenging situations with a sense of maturity
  • improve social skills and behavior
  • evaluate best solutions in different situations
  • solve problems

This resource features (and is centered around) 48 REAL-LIFE, peer pressure scenarios/situations that teens and young adults experience daily in school and out of school. Students read the scenarios and write, discuss, or create role-plays/skits on how to maturely handle peer pressure in these situations.

******************************************

This resource includes 48 Peer Pressure Scenario Task Cards that come in the following variations:

  • 48 Peer Pressure COLORED Task Cards

These two different Task Cards variations contain the same scenarios. You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

********************************************

By learning how to recognize superficial friends, students can spare themselves toxic drama, and move on to choose friends that will last and add meaning to their lives - ALL TOO RELEVANT!

Students can write their responses to these scenarios as a Do Now activity, formative assessment, reflection period, independent or morning assignment, therapy session, etc.

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate the difference between "real" and "fake" friends responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate difficult situations related to friends/friendships. Students will be exposed to a variety of ways they can handle or respond to "fake" friends in certain situations.

Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations as well as their explanations to whether or not the friends are real or fake (in these situations).

Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like "Is this person a real or fake friend - why or why not?" "What ELSE would a real friend do or say in this situation?", "How can you respectfully handle this situation?" “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider in terms of what you would do or say to a 'friend' like this?"

Many young teens, and even adults, struggle with maintaining a filter, finding it challenging to prevent their thoughts, feelings, or emotions from influencing their choice of words—especially when upset or feeling wronged. They may impulsively express the first thing that comes to mind, neglecting to consider the potential consequences. This tendency often leads to unnecessary drama and negative energy. It is crucial for students to acquire the skill of controlling their emotions in awkward situations and thinking before they speak. Our words possess the power to either uplift or damage people's self-esteem and confidence. While honesty is fundamental to lasting relationships, expressing true feelings should be approached with respect, care, and appropriateness.

This resource focuses on 12 scenarios related to "Filtering Your Thoughts." Students are tasked with reading each scenario and expressing their initial thoughts in writing. Subsequently, they are encouraged to "filter" these thoughts and communicate them verbally in a manner that is both appropriate and respectful, avoiding any harm to others' feelings. This provides students with chances to practice selecting their words thoughtfully, substituting negative thoughts and expressions with positive energy. It also helps them understand that they can convey their point honestly while maintaining appropriateness and respect.

4 GOOGLE SLIDE VERSIONS are included: One for the graphic organizer worksheet variation, one for the writing prompt variation, one for the blank worksheets variation, and one for the PowerPoint variation.

*******************************

Social cues—expressed through body language and facial expressions—are a constant part of students’ lives, whether or not they are directly interacting with others. Students with social skills challenges may struggle to interpret these cues, including facial expressions, gestures, and overall posture. Misreading social cues can lead to misunderstandings and difficulties in navigating social situations. Strengthening the ability to recognize and interpret these signals can boost students’ confidence, deepen their understanding of their environment, help them respond appropriately in different situations, manage uncomfortable encounters, and, importantly, prevent potential conflicts.

*******************************

This resource includes 25 practical picture worksheets that help students practice interpreting social cues, such as body language, and responding appropriately. Through these activities, students strengthen their ability to infer people’s feelings and situations, allowing them to choose the most suitable responses.

▶️ 25 Picture Worksheets (Same Pictures in the Task Cards)

**✅ **This resource includes 25 Social Cues Worksheets, available in both printable and digital formats, featuring lines and questions for students to record their responses. Each worksheet contains three questions to prompt student engagement.

  1. What do you notice about this person’s (or people’s) body language?
  2. What do his/her/their cues tell you about his/her/their situation or what he/she/they may be feeling or thinking?
  3. What would be an appropriate thing to do or say to someone in this situation?

✅ Answer Keys | Suggested Responses are included to help you lead effective discussions with your students.

✅ The worksheets feature the same images as the Task Cards and give students the opportunity to interpret social cues, make inferences about a person’s emotions, thoughts, and circumstances, and suggest appropriate responses.

▶️ 25 Picture Task Cards

✅ These Task Cards feature images that illustrate a variety of body language cues. They can be incorporated into larger lessons, used in guided small-group sessions, integrated into whole-class discussions, explored in partner discussions before sharing with the group, or even used one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian. The images match those featured in the Social Cues Worksheets.

✅ Print the Task Cards on glossy or regular paper and laminate them for durability. You can also organize them on a binder ring for easy access and storage.

Task Cards can be used in several ways:

  • Writing Response: Students analyze a picture to interpret the person’s body language, identifying feelings, thoughts, and circumstances. Prompts such as "Which social cues do you notice?""What do these cues suggest?", and "What is the most appropriate way to respond?" encourage deeper analysis. Students can then exchange papers with a partner, who evaluates the responses and offers alternative perspectives.
  • Discussion: In small groups or as a whole class, students use the Task Cards to identify social cues, interpret their meanings, make inferences about the person or situation, and discuss appropriate ways to respond.

▶️ POWERPOINT (25 SLIDES – EDITABLE!)

**✅ **This resource includes a 25-slide editable PowerPoint. Each slide contains the same images featured in the worksheets and task cards. You can rearrange or resize the pictures as needed and add your own text. This PowerPoint is a versatile tool for guiding your lesson, supporting picture analysis, and encouraging meaningful discussions.

▶️ 3 EDITABLE Social Cues Picture Worksheets

**✅ Editable Picture Worksheet #1: **In this editable version, you may add any picture you like. All other elements on this page are locked and cannot be edited due to copyright restrictions.
