This Primary Source Worksheet features two passages written by W.E.B. Du Bois. One passage discusses the Talented Tenth and the other reveals Du Bois' thoughts on racial issues in the South. Kaboom is a fun game to review the use of adjectives and adverbs, 90 cards in total. It can be played in small groups or with the whole class. Low prep, just print out and cut up. 2 worksheets as a bonus.

Troublesome sense verbs (look, smell, taste, feel, sound), which are followed by adjectives (unlike in many other languages), are included.

How to play:

• print out and cut up the cards
• put them in a receptacle of your choice
• decide on how long you want to spend on this activity and set a timer
• pupils take turns pulling out a card and reading the sentence
• if they say it right, they get to keep the card
• if they get it wrong, they put it back
• the next pupil takes a turn
• if they pull out a Kaboom! card, they put all their cards back
• pupil with the most cards at the end wins
