Are you looking for an easy and fun way to review winter vocabulary with your Spanish students? Then look no further! This low-prep set of three matamoscas (flyswatter) games is a great way to practice or review winter-related vocabulary with your elementary or secondary class.

This activity is intended for use as a paired game, but it can also be used as a large-group game (by projecting the chosen game page onto your whiteboard). If you're not familiar with how the game is played, it's simple: all you need to play is enough copies of the game board and two different colored writing utensils per pair of students. You call out terms from the call list included with the game boards and each person scrambles to find and mark it before their partner. At the end of the game, the player with the most terms marked wins!

There are many ways you can use this set of cards: ➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions. ➤ Project the pdf file in class to work in group or with your whole class and avoid printing. ➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box. ➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements. ➤ Use as exit tickets. In this product, students will review winter vocabulary words. Students will be provided with 12 winter picture cards that they can cut out. Students will be given two different forms of the picture cards - one with the name of each picture card and one without. Once students cut out the picture cards, they will follow the directions on each page of the winter prepositions booklet and glue the pictures where they belong. Students will then make up a sentence using each preposition. The product can be cut and made into a smaller pocket booklet. "Christmas Collaborative Story Time" is a communal story-telling activity in which students practice using Freytag's Pyramid plot structure in their own narrative writing. In this activity, each student begins a story inspired by a unique Christmas picture or photograph. They are prompted to write the exposition of the tale by introducing the setting and main characters. After the allotted amount of time, the story is then passed to another student who is prompted to write the inciting incident or conflict and begin to detail the rising action. The paper is passed from student to student twice more until the story is resolved. When the stories are finished, the worksheet is returned to the original student who can then make edits and is responsible for producing a final draft.

With this intrinsically engaging activity, each student has the chance to tap into their creativity while applying knowledge of the 7 steps of Freytag's Pyramid. It is a great activity to introduce or reinforce the plot diagram and is perfect for getting students in the Christmas spirit. Since it runs itself, the lesson is also great for substitute plans or on those days when you need a quick plan to get you through the day. I trust you will find that your students will ask for this activity again and again!

-Photocopy enough snowballs sets for HALF of your class

-cut the snowballs (6 per page)  *Perfect task for a student helper!
