French Listening and Reading Comprehension - Le Plus-Que-Parfait

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Help your students improve their French with this practical listening and reading comprehension resource featuring le plus-que-parfait. A lot of passé composé is also included in the text.

The plus-que-parfait is embedded in the text, allowing students to practice making inferences, connections, and predictions. The resource includes ten comprehension questions that encourage careful reading or listening. This isn’t a beginner-level quiz, so it will challenge your students to think more deeply about the language.

* This resource is also available as a Google Form, a simple reading comprehension activity with multiple choice answers. The text and questions in the Google Form are the same as those in this comprehensive listening and reading resource.

What’s Included:

This resource has eight different parts that can be used for either reading or listening practice. Each part builds on the last, helping students understand and use the material effectively.

1. Reading Comprehension - Written Text: Start by having students read the text. You can let them read along while listening to the audio, helping them connect spoken and written French.

2. Listening Comprehension - Audio Recording: The text is read by François, a native speaker from Paris, at a normal pace. If students find it too fast at first, let them read along while listening, and then try listening without the text.

3. Listening Comprehension - Questions Audio Recording: After the text, students will hear questions read aloud, with a bell tone and a brief pause to give their answers. This helps them practice listening and responding in real time.

4. Listening Comprehension - Open-Ended Questions Worksheet: This worksheet allows students to write their answers to the spoken questions. For a more interactive experience, you can have them answer orally instead.

5. Reading Comprehension - Open-Ended Questions Worksheet: With the text in front of them, students answer questions in complete sentences, helping them to better understand and express their thoughts in French.

6. Reading Comprehension - Multiple Choice Questions Worksheet: This worksheet offers a multiple-choice format for students who might need a bit more support, making it easier to find the correct answers.

7. Cloze Activity - Fill in the Blanks: Students listen to the audio and fill in the missing words in the text. A word bank is provided, and you can use the original text as the answer key.

8. English Translation of Text + Multiple Choice Quiz Answer Key: An English translation of the text is included for reference, along with the answer key for the multiple-choice quiz. While the translation is helpful, the focus is on understanding the French text.

How to Use:

For best results, start with the reading activities so students become familiar with the text. After a few days or the following week, use the same material for listening practice. This will help reinforce what they’ve learned and improve their overall language skills.

This resource is a great way to help your students gain confidence in French!

AP Spanish Lesson Plans Unit 1 Familias: Complete Unit Plan No Textbook Needed!

By Specialty Spanish

New to teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture®?  Make Back To School easier and consider your Unit 1 Lesson Plans (Familias en diferentes sociedades) done!  These digital AND printable lesson plans have nearly every activity you will need linked in.  Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Activities that combine 2 skills, homework, assessments and even a project are all included! Students will learn how to complete the AP® Exam Cultural Comparison in this unit as well as practice the reading and listening multiple choice style questions.  This is the first unit in the AP® Classroom curriculum and a great way to get the year started with your new students!  Best of all, these lesson plans do NOT require that you have a particular textbook!

Feedback from Other Buyers

***Thank you so much for creating these! They are so helpful to have in class. My students were very engaged.****

Teaching a new course, or even trying to revamp a course you’ve taught for a while can be overwhelming.  These lesson plans will take you through the entire first unit for Families in Different Societies, starting with a “Hook Activity” to spark interest and then the essential questions, vocabulary list and grammar study guide you will need to get started. Every activity you need (with the exception of 3) is linked in.  Your prep will be limited to reviewing the lesson plans and sources ahead of your students, but the searching for appropriate authentic materials and creating accompanying activities is already done for you! Download the learning objectives and activity count here!

I am fortunate to have several textbook resources including Temas and Avance.  In these lesson plans I make use of these textbooks for 3 out of 50 activities.  However, especially after teaching on-line for a year, I have moved away from relying on textbooks and I create most of the activities myself. This makes these lesson plans very versatile and usable for anyone!  For teachers who need or like to teach digitally, all of the activities in this bundle can be assigned via Google Classroom or other learning management system. However, almost every activity is also printable for teachers and students who prefer paper copies.  Best of all, once you have these activities in your Google Drive, you can edit and adapt anything to suite your needs!

I have been teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP® exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s. My course is also run as a collaboration with the University of CT.

I start the year with a set of lesson plans designed to last one week.  It is linked below.  We do all the paper-passing, signing up for different apps and classrooms, and become comfortable with the course and our classmates.  We also present our summer homework, also linked below.  This unit starts as if all of the beginning of the year “housekeeping” has been done already.

Consider asking your district to buy this product for you!

**Please be sure to buy additional licenses if more than one teacher plans to use this resource.**

French Conversation Lesson La Randonnée Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Looking for a way to show your students how real daily French conversations flow? This comprehensive French lesson will have your students reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The theme of this lesson is la randonnée. They'll get lots of exposure to real spoken French, while working on the four skills we strive to include in every lesson.

Included:

⭐  Video in French and English

⭐  Audio in French only

⭐  Fill in the blank exercise

⭐  Transcript in French

⭐  Role play situation in English

⭐  Useful sentences + expressions

La Randonnée - Hiking in the mountains

  • You are out hiking along a trail in the mountains, and you lose your balance and fall down. You may have sprained your ankle, and you can’t walk. Fortunately, you have your phone with you! You decide it would be a good idea to call a friend for help and to see if he can come and pick you up.

In the video, students will listen and read along as a typical French dialogue unfolds during une randonnée in France.

As students listen to the conversation, listening comprehension will improve, and they will learn lots of new vocabulary words and expressions. This is really the way French people interact, though it may never have shown up in the textbook!

The video lasts approximately two minutes, and it is easy to pause so that everyone has a chance to study the text.

The speech is not too fast in this video, and all of the words are written on the screen in French and with English translations.

The grammar in this conversation is quite varied. However, French learners at any level can learn a lot and benefit from these conversations through context. Your students will find the English translations to be most helpful, and they will see how it is nearly impossible to give direct translations from French to English.

LESSON PLAN (as you explain it to students):

Step 1: Watch the video and read along as you listen to the conversation. When you don't understand a word, just look down at the English translation. Be sure to take notes! It's ok if you don't understand all of the grammar. Just try to pay close attention to how the sentences are put together and how we do it differently in English.

Step 2: Listen to the audio recording without looking at the words and translations on the video. Do you remember what the words mean? You can use this recording to practice and fine tune your listening skills

Step 3: Print out the fill in the blank exercise, and write in the missing words as you listen to the recording. An answer key is provided. Once you have done this a few times, I challenge you to get out a blank sheet of paper and try writing it all! Just have that pause button ready!

Step 4: Read over the role play situation with a partner. Study the page with helpful French sentences and expressions, and invent your own dialogue. You can use some of what you learned in the video in your conversation!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "My students loved using this for being able to help them have conversations in class. Great resource!"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "This was fantastic, merci! More like this please!!!!"

AP Spanish Lesson Plans Unit 6 Global Challenges Complete Unit Plans No Book!

By Specialty Spanish

Ready to start AP® Spanish Unit 6: Environmental, Political and Social Challenges? (Los retos ambientales, políticos y sociales) Your entire unit’s lesson plans are done!  These digital AND printable lesson plans have nearly every activity you will need linked in.  Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Activities that combine 2 skills, Homework, Assessments, AP® Exam Style activities and even Projects are all included!  The 2 main focuses are on climate change and immigration.  You will find vocabulary, grammar, relevant videos and articles, a debate project, Edpuzzles and more in this bundle. This is the last unit in the AP® Classroom curriculum. (In my Units 1-4 plans, all of the parts of the AP® Exam have been introduced with direct instruction.)

Best of all, these lesson plans do NOT require that you have a particular textbook!  Everything you need is provided!

Teaching a new course, or even trying to revamp a course you’ve taught for a while is extremely time consuming.  These complete unit lesson plans will take you through the entire 6th unit for Global Challenges  starting with a “Hook Activity” using provocative images to spark interest and thought, and then the essential questions, vocabulary list and grammar study guide that you will need to get started. There are activities related to Climate Change and Immigration.  Every activity (over 58!) you need (with the exception of 2) is linked in.  Your prep will be limited to reviewing the lesson plans and sources ahead of your students, but the searching for appropriate authentic materials and creating accompanying activities is already done for you!  Download the Learning Objectives and Activity Count here!

I am fortunate to have several textbook resources including Temas, AP Spanish Preparing for the Language and Culture Examination and Avance.   In these lesson plans I make use of these textbooks for 2 out of 58+ activities. (They are grammar practices, but I provide the study guide and quiz, so you can easily make or find practices to go with these!)  However, especially after teaching on-line for a year, I have moved away from relying on textbooks and I create most of the activities myself. This makes these lesson plans very versatile and usable for anyone!  For teachers who need or like to teach digitally, all of the activities in this bundle can be assigned via Google Classroom or other learning management system. And almost every activity is also printable for teachers and students who prefer paper copies.  Best of all, once you have these activities in your Google Drive, you can edit and adapt anything to suit your needs!

I have been teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture® since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s.

I start the year with a set of lesson plans designed to last one week.  It is linked below.  We do all the paper-passing, signing up for different apps and classrooms, and become comfortable with the course and our classmates.  We also present our summer homework, also linked below.  Next I teach Unit 1: Families in Different Societies. This unit (Unit 6) starts as if all of the beginning of the year “housekeeping” has been done already and logically follows units 1, 2, 3 and 4 and 5 where I present all the different tasks of the AP Spanish Exam.   The previous unit plans are also linked below.  AP® teachers are allowed to teach the units in any order they would like, but I recommend that if you plan to use this series of lesson plans, that you go in order. I choose to introduce the AP test open-ended tasks over time so that students are not overwhelmed.  By unit 3, they will have learned the purpose, rules and resources for all of the tasks and can spend the last 3 units practicing them some more. This last unit is designed to fit into the often chaotic end of the school year with its many interruptions.

There is a place within the lesson plans where I encourage a break from the unit to review for the AP® Exam. I have a schedule for review that I use with my students which I will link below.  If you are using this unit at a different point in the year, you can go through the unit without pause!

Consider asking your district to buy this product for you!

-Google Docs lesson plans with daily learning objectives, step-by-step instructions, teacher tips and explanations, and activities linked in

-embedded direct instruction and practice for the different parts of the AP Spanish® Exam

-Lessons organized by 3 45 minute periods and 1 90 minute period (our school uses a modified block schedule). The lesson activities are easy to move around to meet your school's schedule!

When we unexpectedly went to distance learning, I had to scramble as an AP Spanish® teacher. My students did not have access to their textbooks or the audio that went with it.  We used the Temas text, but I found that I had to adapt.  So, my lesson plans are now based almost entirely on authentic materials that I have found and curated.  I have created vocab lists around these materials and the activities that will go with them!  There are times during the lesson plans where I offer a suggestion from something that is found in the Temas textbook, but these lessons can be used fully without those suggestions.

Along with the honor of teaching our most advanced Spanish students comes the burden of heavy correcting and tons of planning.  We also have other preps.  Having an entire year’s worth of curriculum, lesson plans, projects and assessments ready to go will save you an incredible amount of time and relieve some of the pressure that we face as teachers.

In my classes, we also review grammar and use the Avance text as a guide.  I include a study guide and a grammar quiz in each unit, but the practice activities (if you want to review grammar in class) are not included.

Required Materials:

-Access to the Internet and Google Docs/Slides/Forms

-Access to AP Classroom® via College Board  (free to all AP ®Teachers)

Referenced ancillary materials (though not necessary)

-Temas textbook

-Avance Grammar textbook

-A test prep workbook (several are suggested in the plans, though not needed)

Here is some feedback about my unit plans!

Extremely satisfied

Thank you so much for creating these! They are so helpful to have in class. My students were very engaged.

Extremely satisfied

Amazing resource! I have already purchased Unit 2 and 3!

Extremely satisfied

Extremely well planned unit. Everything you need is included here. I teach 3 different levels of Spanish and it is hard for me to revamp lesson plans. We use the textbook TEMAS at my school site but the readings can be very dry. I like how this unit incorporates soooo many resources that are authentic.

I am definitely going to purchase more units. I wish there was a discounted bundle with all units because I would buy it!

Why should you trust me??

I have been teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture® since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  As I am still a classroom teacher, my activities and ideas evolve each year.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP® exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s. I am successfully teaching this course in conjunction with the University of CT as another way for students to earn college credit. My former students report taking Spanish classes at the college/university level and having a high level of success!

Consider asking your district to buy this product for you!

French Conversation - La Pâtisserie - Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Looking for a way to show your students how real daily French conversations flow? This comprehensive French lesson will have your students reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The theme of this lesson is à la pâtisserie. They'll get lots of exposure to real spoken French, while working on the four skills we strive to include in every lesson.

Included:

⭐  Video in French and English

⭐  Audio in French only

⭐  Fill in the blank exercise

⭐  Transcript in French

⭐  Role play situation in English

⭐  Useful sentences + expressions

À la pâtisserie - At the pastry shop

  • You’re at a beautiful bakery where they have all kinds of cakes and pies. You need to buy a dessert to bring to your friend’s house for dinner, but she doesn’t like chocolate. Ask about your options before making a decision.

In the video, students will listen and read along as a typical French dialogue unfolds à la pâtisserie in France.

AP Spanish Lesson Plans Unit 2 Identidad Digital or Printable Complete Unit

By Specialty Spanish

New to teaching AP® Spanish Language and Culture?  Consider your Unit 2 Lesson Plans (La influencia de la lengua y la cultura en la identidad) done!  These digital AND printable lesson plans have nearly every activity you will need linked in.  Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Activities that combine 2 skills, homework, assessments and even projects are all included! Students will learn how to complete the AP Exam Argumentative Essay and Simulated Conversation in this unit as well as practice the reading and listening multiple choice style questions.  Best of all, these lesson plans do NOT require that you have a particular textbook!

Teaching a new course, or even trying to revamp a course you’ve taught for a while can be overwhelming.  These complete unit lesson plans will take you through the entire 2nd unit for The Influence of Language and Culture on Identity starting with a “Hook Activity” to spark interest and then the essential questions, vocabulary list and grammar study guide you will need to get started. Every activity (over 60!) you need (with the exception of 4) is linked in.

In these lesson plans I make use of these textbooks for 4 out of 60+ activities. And almost every activity is also printable for teachers and students who prefer paper copies.  Best of all, once you have these activities in your Google Drive, you can edit and adapt anything to suit your needs!

I have been teaching AP® Spanish Language and Culture since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP® exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s. I also teach this course as an Early College Experience in collaboration with the University of CT, as another way for students to earn college credit.

This unit starts as if all of the beginning of the year “housekeeping” has been done already.   That resource is also linked below.  AP teachers are allowed to teach the units in any order they would like, but I recommend that if you plan to use this series of lesson plans, that you go in order. I choose to introduce the AP test open-ended tasks over time so that students are not overwhelmed.  By unit 3, they will have learned the purpose, rules and resources for all of the tasks and can spend the last 3 units practicing them some more.

Consider asking your district to buy this product for you!

Comprehensive French Imperfect Tense Lesson Plan

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

This is a comprehensive lesson on the French imperfect tense. I’ve packaged this lesson for TeachShare exactly the way I teach it to my students whether in person or online.  All of the resources in the 9 steps listed below are meant to give students many ways to practice and master the imperfect tense.  You can access my video tutorial on YouTube by clicking here.  It is a 40 minute lesson.  As you read the lesson plan outlined below, you will see that it addresses students directly.  A PDF of the lesson plan is included. This lesson is very easy to implement when you're in the classroom with your students, when you have to be absent for a few days and need sub plans, or when your students are studying at home. Click here for more imperfect tense resources.

STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS and LESSON PLAN:

This resource includes everything you see below in the 9 STEP lesson plan. Click here if you only want the practice cards.

The imparfait is one of the ways you can speak in the past. In this lesson, you will learn the difference between the imperfect and passé composé tenses, how to add description to a sequence of events, exactly when and how to use the imperfect, and how to form it.

This comprehensive French lesson includes the following to help you practice and master your new skill:

STEP 1 - Download your 12 page cours and use it to follow along while listening to the lesson. There are spaces for you to fill in missing information that you will learn as I explain everything. Taking your own notes directly on paper is a proven way of helping to retain new information.

STEP 2 - Download your 11 page lesson guide and add it to your French resources folder. This copy includes all of the essential rules and examples from the lesson.

STEP 3 - Watch the 40 minute comprehensive video lesson on forming the imperfect and all of the ways you can use it.  Click here to watch it on YouTube.

STEP 4 - Download Teacher Lesson Notes and review everything that was taught in the lesson. This copy includes supplementary information that is not included in the lesson guide (all of the extras that come up during the lesson).

STEP 5 - Listening comprehension audio drill: être, aller, avoir, faire. Follow the instructions on the first page of the accompanying PDF which includes a copy of the drill in written form. Practice and master all imperfect forms of these four verbs.

STEP 6 - Listening comprehension audio drill: vouloir, pouvoir, devoir, savoir. Follow the instructions on the first page of the accompanying PDF which includes a copy of the drill in written form. Practice and master all imperfect forms of these four verbs.

STEP 7 - Listening comprehension - La Journée de Vanessa. Listen to a story that is told completely in the imperfect tense. Pay close attention to how the verbs are used. A French only copy of the text in written form is provided as well as a French - English copy.

STEP 8 - Written exercise - 25 sentences are written in the present tense, passé composé or futur proche. Rewrite them in the imperfect tense. An answer key is provided.

STEP 9 - 50 practice cards. This set of cards will really help you master your new skill. Each card includes a common word or expression from the lesson that is typically used in the imperfect. All cards are numbered, and an answer key is provided.

French Conversation - Un Livre Oublié - Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Looking for a way to show your students how real daily French conversations flow? This comprehensive French lesson will have your students reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The theme of this lesson is un livre oublié. They'll get lots of exposure to real spoken French, while working on the four skills we strive to include in every lesson.

Included:

⭐  Video in French and English

⭐  Audio in French only

⭐  Fill in the blank exercise

⭐  Transcript in French

⭐  Role play situation in English

⭐  Useful sentences + expressions

Livre oublié - Forgotten book

  • You’ve just spent a wonderful weekend at a friend’s house who lives about three hours away. When you finally got back home, you realized that you had forgotten the book you were reading on the terrace by the pool. It’s a really good one, and you decide to call your friend to ask her to mail it to you.

In the video, students will listen and read along as a typical French dialogue unfolds à la pâtisserie in France.

French Passé Composé With Être - Vandertramp - Listen, Read, Write in French

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Need a creative way for students to learn which verbs use être as a helping verb in the passé composé? This engaging French lesson includes an original story with comprehensive listening, reading, and writing activities. After this lesson, your students will know and understand the 17 Dr. & Mrs. P. Vandertramp verbs. Here's a fun game that you can use to have your students practice conjugating these verbs.

EXPECT YOUR STUDENTS TO:

  • identify verbs that use être as a helping verb
  • strengthen listening comprehension at their level
  • remember to make agreement on past participles
  • learn new vocabulary by reading in French
  • be amused by this creative story

STEP 1:

  • Download, print, and distribute the Dr. & Mrs. P. Vandertramp chart.
  • 17 verbs that use être as a helping verb are written in French with English translations.
  • Past participles are included.

STEP 2:

  • Listen to an audio recording of an original story that uses all 17 verbs that use être in the passé composé to work on listening comprehension, and to see how much students can understand.
  • Download worksheet #1 and have students fill in the blanks (subjects, helping verbs, and past participles) as they listen to the story again.
  • Download, print, and distribute the full text (2 pages) and have students read along as they listen again.
  • Download worksheet #2 and have students fill in the blanks (helping verbs and past participles only - subjects and infinitives are included) NOT while listening to the story.

STEP 3:

  • Dictée - Listen to the audio recording and have students write everything they hear on the lines provided.
  • This is a good exercise in listening comprehension, and they'll need to pay close attention to number and gender to spell the past participles correctly.
  • Subject pronouns along with number and gender are included on the student response sheet.
  • As they listen, they will write helping verbs and past participles.

What some teachers are saying about this lesson:

"Amazing resource! This was so comprehensive and hit all the aspects of language I was assessing at the time. I'm going to use this for the rest of my career."

"Great breakdown of the PC and of Vandertramp verbs. The audio recording was a great exercise, the right "level" of challenge for my grade 9s."
