More than $20 High School en Français Assessment (by price, low to high)

Common French expressions are a great way to spice up conversations, increase vocabulary, and sound more French. The grammar in these expressions is varied, so this resource is fine for all levels (even beginners). Many of these expressions are informal or familiar. However, none of the expressions are inappropriate or vulgar. This bundle will save you 20%.

A grammar quiz and a reading comprehension quiz are included in this bundle, as well as a comprehensive listening and reading activity.

The idea is to not worry about WHY things are said this way in French, but instead to encourage our students to accept it and memorize these short expressions, interjections, and sentence starters. My students have a lot of fun using these, and I love hearing them having fun with French!

In addition to the set of cards, you get video and audio versions. All of the words and expressions are spoken slowly, and students are given time to repeat them aloud. English translations are included for all expressions on the video recordings. Students will notice that the English versions are almost never direct translations, which is interesting to note! Audio recordings are included so you can share them to have your students practice almost anywhere (even on the way to school)!

Included:

1. 2 separate video recordings with all expressions written in French and English
2. 2 separate audio recordings for listening comprehension and pronunciation practice
3. 2 sets of practice cards to print, cut out, and use over and over again (total 155 cards)

How to use the practice cards:

Have students print and cut out the cards, and hook them together with a ring. Expressions are written in French at the top, and in English at the bottom. As they practice and master these expressions by using the video and audio recordings, they can test themselves frequently with the stack of cards. When they feel confident with a word or expression, they can take a pair of scissors and CUT OFF THE ENGLISH translation on the dotted line. They'll eventually have a handy set of French only cards to pull out any time they'd like to review. Have a look at the video preview.

My dictation exercises are unique because I've included both video and audio versions. Check out the preview to see all of the grammar that is covered in each of the ten dictées included in this bundle.

Each of the 10 dictées in this bundle include the following resources:

➯ Video presentation of the dictée. Watch me and listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. Many non-natives find it makes the listening comprehension part of dictation exercises more manageable to see the speaker's mouth. Once I've finished reading the dictation, I will present each written sentence in French along with the English translation. Once we've gone through all of the sentences and students have checked their work, I will present the complete text in paragraph form on the screen. At that time, we can slowly read through the complete text together so they can see how the separate sentences actually form a short story. Please note that the preview highlights both SET 1 and SET 2.

➯ Audio presentation of the dictée. Listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. This version of the exercise will be more challenging as students will not see the speaker's mouth.

➯ PDF of the numbered sentences in the dictée and the English translation.

➯ Numbered student response sheet. This is located on page 2 of the PDF.

French Spiral Circling Review Activities BUNDLE

These particular activities are different than many French TPRS circling activities because they don't necessarily tell a story. Read on to see how you can easily differentiate this activity by using video, audio, and practice cards. Each resource has a video preview in the individual descriptions. Check them out to see how these activities work!

Research reveals that language learners need MANY repetitions of grammatical structures in order to truly acquire them. By using the circling method, familiarity with the word or phrase is done through repetitive questions circling around the target language.

Included in French 1 level:

Step 1: Watch the video lesson / activity to learn about the circling method. Students will quickly catch on, and will truly need to concentrate so that they can make the necessary changes in their sentences. Do your students ever tell you that they can understand what's being said, but can't think fast enough to make the necessary changes when responding? That's exactly why you should have them try out circling!

Step 2: Once they've watched the video and have done the exercise while reading along, try out the audio only version! This will be a challenge as they will not be able to see the words, and it will help with listening and speaking skills.

Step 3: Use the set of cards to practice reading and writing. Read the cards that I have spoken in steps 1 and 2, and have students take the time to write their responses before looking at the answer cards. As the cards are not numbered, I encourage you to download them and use them online rather than printing.

This is a set of 6 French dialogues about Christmas - Noël between 2-4 people. Short skits or dialogues like these can be used in many ways during the weeks leading up to Christmas.  

I've included a 4 step lesson plan with listening comprehension, reading comprehension, answering comprehension questions, and acting out the skits with a partner or in small groups.

These skits can also be used as an individual reading comprehension assessment.  14 reading comprehension questions are included with each lesson.

The skits can be printed on one side of a sheet of paper and the questions on the other for really easy, no prep Christmas activities. The grammar level is intermediate.  

Most of the verbs are in the present or passé composé, and very few pronouns are used.

Your students will learn a lot of new Christmas vocabulary, and they're going to have a great time with this activity!  Everything is written in French only.

During the recording the verbs are not numbered so that you can easily choose a group of 10 or 15 at any point during the exercise to use as bell ringer reviews or to get your students in French mode as they enter the classroom. Use this drill at any time during the year as an excellent review. Use it with upper level students who sometimes need to revise the basics or provide a copy to struggling students who can use it as review while riding on the bus or in the car.

• Three 20 minute mp3 audio recordings: Regular verbs in the present tense, regular verbs in the passé composé, regular and irregular verbs in the passé composé
• Answer sheets
• Student response sheets
• 5 effective ways to use these verb drills

1. Language lab or classroom listening and speaking exercise

Students listen to the drill either as a class or with individual headphones on. They will hear an infinitive and subject pronoun to conjugate.Students are given five seconds to say their answer before the correct response is pronounced. The verbs are purposefully not numbered in the recording so that you can choose to do them either in or out of order. This is a listening and speaking grammar drill and writing the answers is not encouraged.

2. Language lab or classroom silent written exercise

Provide each student with a numbered answer recording sheet. Students should be reminded to pay close attention as the verbs in the recording are NOT numbered. They will hear an infinitive which they should write in the appropriate column. Next they’ll hear a subject pronoun and will be given five seconds to write their answers. Since this is a fast moving exercise you may want to give students a chance to revise their answers once the recording has stopped.

3. Whiteboard classroom activity - Individual or paired work

Have students write answers on whiteboards after they’ve heard the infinitive and

subject pronoun to be used. Pause the recording and give students five seconds to write their answers. When they’ve finished have them listen carefully and check their work when you stop pause and play the answer. This works particularly well with pairs of students because they can help each other and the work won’t seem so tedious. I often allow my pairs of students to keep track of one point per correct answer and at the end of the activity see which group has the most points.

4. Bell ringer activity

You have five or ten minutes to spare at the end of class, so why not play a sampling of the verb drill? With 100 verbs to choose from you could keep it quite varied. Also use parts of the drill as students enter the classroom to get them in French mode. I've found this to be a great way to keep kids quiet as they come in and get settled.

5. Group writing game

Chances are you have your students’ desks in some kind of rows or groups. Here’s a fun way to change up the verb drills a bit. Let’s say you have rows or groups of five students. Before starting the verb drill recording give the first person in each group a blank sheet of paper and he should have something to write with.

Number the paper 1 - 5 (or the number of students in the group) and as you play the drill the first student has to write his answer next to #1. He has to write something even if he doesn’t know exactly how to spell it. Immediately after the answer is pronounced on the recording he must pass the paper to the next person in his group. It’s important not to hesitate because the recording will continue.

Person #2 records his answer and so on until each person in the group has had a go. At this point, stop the recording and the last person in each group brings the paper back up to the first person who can look over all of the answers written by his group members. He can make any changes he wants to make to anyone’s answer BUT STUDENTS CANNOT SPEAK A WORD TO EACH OTHER.

He then passes the paper back down the row and everyone gets a chance to change either his own or another group member’s answer. They should move fast though because here’s the catch, the first group to turn in a 100% accurate paper to the teacher wins that round!

Play French scattergories when you need quick, no prep activities to play with your class while they practice their French vocabulary, oral, and written skills. This bundle of categories games includes many engaging activities with different French vocabulary themes which work well as ice-breakers. Take a look at the preview for more details about these games.

The categories vary from: "le titre d'un livre" to "le nom d'une ville ou pays". This game is can be adapted for a variety of grades depending on the number of games you play as well as the time allotted for each game.

French Verb Conjugation Board Games - PRESENT TENSE GROWING BUNDLE - No Prep Printables

Board games are a fun way to practice conjugating regular and irregular verbs in the present tense. This growing bundle will save you 50%. Once you own the bundle, all future worksheets that I add will be yours at no additional cost (though the price of the bundle will increase accordingly).

Each board game is one page and requires absolutely no prep. You will need to provide dice and game pieces for each player. Games include 37 numbered boxes. The first player to reach box 37 wins. There are a few tricks along the way, so getting to the end isn’t always so easy! Some boxes require students to conjugate the verb using the provided subject pronoun, and others require them to name the subject pronoun that matches the verb conjugation.
