Drawing conclusions refers to information that is implied or inferred. Students use important textual information to make meaning out of what is not clearly stated by authors/writers. Writers give readers hints or clues that help them “read between the lines,” since not everything is explicitly stated. Drawing conclusions enables students to move beyond simple decoding.

Drawing Conclusions is an important skill students need to master to enhance their comprehension of texts and “think outside the box.” Drawing conclusions is not only used in content areas, but also in problem solving, and in social interactions.

This resource features a combination of 44 Drawing Conclusions questions and question stems that cover the topics of character, setting, events, author, and quote analysis. They can be used as writing prompts, discussion/debate questions, or both! • 44 Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS - These Drawing Conclusions Question Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, writing prompt activities, formative assessment during or after reading, journal-writing, or even one-on-one with a teacher or parent/guardian! You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

• 44 Drawing Conclusions Question Strips - These sentence question strips are beautifully created and feature the same Drawing Conclusion questions in the Task Cards. They can be cut, distributed, and used in many ways including distributing one or two to each student to think about, share their thinking and responses with a partner, or you can simply randomly choose a question strip and call on student to answer - Be creative!

The graphic novel, Clash by Kayla Miller is great for children ages 8 - 14, as they can relate with the characters. My students enjoyed this book because it is a book about friendship, being a kind person even if you don't like someone, being mature, understanding what others are going through, and solving problems with friends and in life. This book does not have chapters, so comprehension questions were separated by pages. Therefore, written comprehension skills are emphasized while reading. At the end of this product, there are a variety of short answer writing prompts to choose from.

The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and a few example sentences are presented in the packet. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet.

This resource focuses on CHAPTER 18 of We Beat The Street and features 5 inference-based questions that require students to demonstrate inferential thinking and a deep analysis of the chapter - beyond literal comprehension. Each inference-based question can be treated as an extended response where students must make inferences and support their responses, ideas, and/or analysis with evidence from the text.

► There is a "combo" worksheet, which includes all five questions on two pages. There are also 5 separate worksheets that include the same questions on a different worksheet. This allows for more extensive responses. You can have students either complete all five inference-based questions on the "combo" worksheet all at once OR you can have students complete each of the questions at different times: for classwork, independent practice, homework, or formative assessment - your choice! You can even give students different questions depending on their levels - excellent for differentiation.

► I also included a blank worksheet for you to generate your own question and students write it in the box!

► A detailed ANSWER KEY for the questions have been included. The ideas and evidence in the Answer Keys are accompanied by page numbers to help you facilitate discussion more smoothly and navigate to important ideas and events without looking for the information in the book.
