Welcome to an enchanting world of drama activities designed to captivate and inspire your middle school or high school students! This engaging bundle features ten thought-provoking scenarios rooted in classic fairy tales, encouraging students to explore themes of identity, decision-making, and self-discovery. From Cinderella's modern twist to Snow White navigating the realms of social media, each scenario invites students into a realm of creativity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. With rich character dilemmas, these activities offer a unique blend of dramatic arts, moral exploration, and language arts, and challenge students to analyze, interpret, and perform in a manner that's both entertaining and educational. Unlock the magic of drama in your classroom as students delve into timeless tales with a contemporary twist, fostering a love for storytelling, character development, and meaningful discussions. Your students are sure to be spellbound by the imaginative world of Fairy Tales and Monologues Part 2. If you enjoy this activity, check out Fairy Tale and Monologues Part 1!
What Students Will Be Doing:
This is a 3-part assignment that incorporates both individual and group assignments. Groups of students (4-6) are responsible for writing an individual monologue, a group script and a final monologue reflection. Students will take on the role of a character from a well known fairy tale. In the individual monologue, students will get to explore the perspective of their character and how the new dilemma a character is faced with should be solved. The group will then figure out a solution to the dilemma and will write a short script to show their resolution. After the group has resolved the dilemma, each character will have an opportunity to reflect on how their character feels about the outcome. Don't worry I've included some rubrics that you can use for each section too and some worksheets to help guide student thinking.

AP Literature FRQ1: AP Lit Poetry Analysis Essay | Assignment, Models, & Rubric
By Rigorous Resources for High School English
This 40-page EDITABLE resource will help your students write high-quality Poem Analysis Essays. Learning how to generate a formalist analysis of a poem will enable your students excel on Free Response Question #1 (FRQ1) from the AP Literature and Composition Exam. Because most students find the genre of the Poem Analysis Essay to be new and unfamiliar, the primary purpose of this resource is to provide students with models or exemplars of well-written essays on a wide range of poems. But the resource is also intended to equip you with enough prompts and templates that you'll be able to give your students ample practice at writing Poem Analysis Essays.
Here's what you'll find in this 40-page AP Lit resource:
• Tips for Success: This two-page handout contains detailed instructions for how to generate a formalist analysis of a poem. How do the formal elements and literary devices in a poem contribute to its meaning? What steps should a student follow when annotating a poem from Free Response Question #1? (2 pages)
• Model Essays (Exemplars): This resource features no fewer than 7 model essays that you can use to show your students how to write a Poem Analysis Essay. The model essays provide students with numerous examples of how to write a hook, thesis, topic sentence, etc. The model essays focus on poems by Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Gwendolyn Brooks, William Stafford, John Updike, Elizabeth Bishop, and Rhina Espaillat. (14 pages)
• Template to Create Your Own Essay Prompt: Use this template to create your own FRQ1 assignment. Just insert any poem that you think is sufficiently complex to warrant a complex written analysis. (5 pages)
• Glossary of Literary Devices: A glossary with definitions and examples of the various types of figurative language, imagery, stanzas, syntactic devices, etc. Many teachers already have a glossary of literary devices, but I'm providing this in case you need one. (2 pages)
• Analysis of Trends on Recent AP Lit Exams: This analysis of poems included on recent AP Lit Exams yields several insights that should inform how you construct your literature curriculum. Should you prioritize older poems or diverse authors? Sonnets or free verse? (2 pages)
• Grading Rubric: The rubric includes columns that will enable you to give feedback on each student's thesis, textual evidence, analysis of literary devices, organization of paragraphs, and mechanics. (1 page)
This poetry unit will come to you in a single 40-page EDITABLE Word document. My store is called “Rigorous Resources” because all of the resources contain rigorous content that will motivate students to generate in cogent and insightful essays.
Because I believe that teachers should be able to see exactly what they'll be getting before they purchase, the preview for this resource allows viewing accesses to over 15 pages. Click on the green “PREVIEW” button to see exactly what you’ll get. . . .

Four Corners | Figurative Language Game | No Prep | ELA | Writing | Poetry
By Perfectly Planned Designs
This Four Corners Game is a fun, no-prep activity you can use to review Figurative Language that your students will LOVE! They will love moving around the room as you click through the 40 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! You will love this well-organized activity that allows students to test their knowledge, get exposure to high-quality examples, and even learn something new! This is an activity I use in my classroom every year during our narrative writing unit and I know your students will love it!
INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE:
40 Examples of Figurative Language
4 Printable Classroom Signs
Definition of Terms
Answer Key
STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR USING THIS RESOURCE
After reading each figurative language example on the board, move to the side of the room labeled “Metaphor,” “Simile,” “Hyperbole,” or “Personification.” Be prepared to defend your choices. You may disagree with your classmates’ opinions but do so respectfully. (I typically go over each example with students and discuss the impact of the words or phrases to uncover the deeper meaning. Ask questions such as, "what is being compared?" or "what can the reader visualize?")
*As an optional follow-up activity, use my No-Prep Figurative Language Short Passage Set resource to assess individual understanding, homework, or assessment!
REFLECTION:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!
