My students were overwhelmed by the thought of writing so we took a step back. It is important to remember to take time to plan, which includes brainstorming. This packet features 5 simple topics (cats, magical adventures, exploring a castle, recess, my hero) with thematic pages to help students consider what they know.\n\nWhat is included?\n\nStart by providing students with thematic pages to help them begin the brainstorming process. I also love that I can teach and students can practice each part of a paragraph individually before putting the whole thing together.\n\n— Mary J.\\\nRated 5 out of 5\n\nDo your students need some additional supports with paragraphs? My students were having difficulty with developing ideas that were on topic. They would write, however the materials didn't align. So, I made this as a practice to identify what things go together.\n\nWhat is included?\n\n* 3 pages you can use as posters or visual introductions for introductions, supporting details and conclusions\n* Paragraph orders - 5 cut and paste pages. Students will read the sentences, cut them out, and place them in the correct order.\n* Identify introductions / conclusions (3 pages each with 3 paragraphs on each page). Student will read the paragraph and choose the best intro/conclusion from a choice of 3.\n* Identify supporting details (2 pages each with 3 paragraphs on each page). Student will read the paragraph and choose sentences that support the topic sentence.\n* Write a paragraph - Use the page of writing prompts and a hamburger writing template to practice writing a paragraph.\n\n**3: Writing Paragraphs by expanding your thoughts and adding supporting details**\n\nDo your students need some additional supports with expanding their thoughts when they are writing a paragraph? While you can use as posters or visual supports, I merely projected the pages onto my white board and we discussed the importance of our writings.\n* 2 pages of matching - Each page has simple sentences students can read. They will draw lines from one side to the other to select the sentences that support one another.\n* 2 pages of multiple choice - A sentence is provided, and students will select the sentence that supports it best from a choice of 4.\n* Paragraph orders - 4 cut and paste pages. Colorful Semantics Sentence Writing Support
By SEN Resource Source
Colorful Semantics is a structured language intervention designed to support the development of language and communication skills, particularly in children with speech and language difficulties. This resource includes sentence making boards for children to plan and write sentences using the cards. It also includes all 4 sets of color coded cards for who, what doing, what and where. There are 354 cards in total.
Why do you need this?

How and when might you use this?
This approach is often implemented through a variety of interactive and hands-on activities, such as sentence building games, storytelling, and picture-based exercises. It can be tailored to the individual needs and abilities of learners, making it suitable for use in both classroom settings and speech and language clinics.

Paperless Picture of The Day Morning Meeting Work Digital Resources
By Professional Development and Teacher Prep
Do your students need highly engaging morning meeting digital resources or a picture of the day to start off their morning? Morning Meeting Picture Slides are important to utilize to develop strong relationships with students and peer-to-peer relationships. The picture of the day allows for deeper conversations and the building of a strong classroom community, which in turn raises academic achievement skills. The digital resource has many diverse pictures where everyone can feel represented.
How I Use Picture of The Day
We use a picture of the day every morning during our morning meeting routine. The morning meeting slides are projected on our screen for all students to see. Students are asked to infer, visualize, synthesize, and create connections with the picture. Looking closely at a picture is an important reading skill for students to develop to create inferences about what they are reading.
Additionally, The picture of the day can be used for writing prompts or centers. Students can look at the picture and write a story based on the picture.
This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners. You could assign one or more morning meeting slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.
“Morning Meeting is an engaging way to start each day, build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically.” -Responsive Classroom
“Morning meetings are an excellent way to help students transition from home to school and help them get ready to learn. In addition, these meetings can help you connect with your students, help students build relationships with each other, and promote an overall sense of community in the classroom.” -Centervention

Paragraph Practice BUNDLE - Brainstorming, Writing & Expanding Paragraphs
By Until the Pieces Fit
Included in this bundle are 3 of my favorite writing resources for helping students begin, write and expand their thoughts. These resources are interactive, with cut and paste, drawing and other activities.
1: Brainstorming and Beginning to Write Paragraphs
Do your students have difficulty when asked to write? My students were overwhelmed by the thought of writing so we took a step back. It is important to remember to take time to plan, which includes brainstorming. This packet features 5 simple topics (cats, magical adventures, exploring a castle, recess, my hero) with thematic pages to help students consider what they know.
What is included?
Start by providing students with thematic pages to help them begin the brainstorming process. Select all or some of the pages & try to have fun.
Brainstorming pages:
Start writing using templates:
2: Paragraph Practice - Identify introductions/conclusions, sort sentences, prompts
What are teachers saying? I love the colorful anchor charts to focus on each part individually. I also love that I can teach and students can practice each part of a paragraph individually before putting the whole thing together.
— Mary J.
Rated 5 out of 5
Do your students need some additional supports with paragraphs? My students were having difficulty with developing ideas that were on topic. They would write, however the materials didn't align. So, I made this as a practice to identify what things go together.
What is included?
3: Writing Paragraphs by expanding your thoughts and adding supporting details
Do your students need some additional supports with expanding their thoughts when they are writing a paragraph? My students were having difficulty with developing ideas that were on topic & adding details to their writing. So, I made this as a practice to expanding their thoughts. (*this activity builds on my other writing packet which will be linked below)
What is included?
These resources can be used in direct instruction, small /large groups. I have attached it as a pdf, so you could project the pages onto your board and write. Please reach out with any questions: untilthepiecesfit2@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION
This in-depth Lesson Plan Packet for the book Neema’s Reason to Smile by Patricia Newman helps students explore real life issues, specifically the challenges/barriers children face in accessing an education. In addition to a variety of engaging activities centered around education, the lesson plan includes a close reading of the book and the watching of a video that is related to the overall themes and topics presented in this book. (Video link included in the lesson plan). Students will engage in multiple activities where they will practice the following skills: inferencing, compare and contrast, and self-to-text, text-to-text, and world-to-text connections. Worksheets and Assessments are differentiated.
An editable version of the Lesson Plan has been included to allow you to modify as you wish!
Also included are 5 Compelling Bulletin Board Task Display Pages, which not only helps showcase student work, but also enhances the overall visual aspect of your bulletin board! You can print these out on photo or gloss paper for optimal quality and shine to post with student work.
