Using a Video of The Day can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The videos can be utilized during your Morning Meeting time along with your other components. 

The Video of The Day is on PowerPoint and can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the PowerPoint each morning and play the video on the slide. There are 60 EDITABLE and DIVERSE videos! This is part 1 of 3, and parts 2 and part 3 have numerous editable videos as well! If you would rather use a different video one day, you can delete the video and add your own! 

Students will infer, visualize, synthesize, and create connections with the videos.  Looking closely at a video is an important reading skill for students to develop to create inferences about what they are watching. Therefore, the inferences they are creating about the videos will lead to connections and inferences within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading. You will need to teach students how to do that throughout the school year with the PowerPoint. 

Additionally, The Video of The Day can be used for writing prompts or centers. Students can view the video and write a story based on the video. The students may also write predictions on what they think would happen next if the video continued.  

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners as well. You could assign one or more slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.

Firstly, there is a great World War I Digital Research and Sorting Activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key events of the war. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. In total there are 30 posters or task cards that need to be researched and sorted. These can also be printed to make a great classroom display.

Then there is a World War 1 Close Reading Activity. The Google Forms activity comes with an informational text that students need to read through before answering comprehension and grammar questions. An extension writing task is also included.

Finally there is also a World War I Informational Text Writing Activity. The activity focuses on key facts about the war, and has been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

The Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Unit is part of my Field Trip Unit Series. The series was created with homeschoolers in mind, but can be adapted to be used in a classroom as well. Field trips are a great way to supplement learning, but often homeschoolers don’t get any background information on the location of their field trip and want to enrich their experience by expanding the learning at home before and after the trip. This resource will provide your second grade, third grade, and fourth grade students with 30 nonfiction reading passages about holidays in the month of July. Use these no-prep reading comprehension passages to have your students reading about various engaging topics.

It seems like every day is National (insert cool thing here) Day. I decided to look into these holidays to bring some fun and excitement back to informational passages. The best part about these units though... they are EASILY enrichable! For example, watch Donald Duck cartoons on Donald Duck Day, celebrate fathers on Father's Day, or get students to bring their bikes to school for Bicycle Day!

My class has had such a fun time reading these passages and celebrating something each day.

In this unit, you will be given 33 informational passages with text dependent questions requiring short answer responses.

Please consider that not every day has a holiday that is school appropriate. Not every holiday remains on the same day each year.

All passages are informational based, usually with a history on the day and whatever is being celebrated. Passages have 4-6 questions with a few skills being met:

• asking and answering questions
• main idea
• key details
• making connections
• context clues
• author's POV vs reader's POV

Similar format throughout the unit so students get familiar with text structure and routine quickly. This document has the passage on top with the questions below.
