Colorful Semantic Visual Cue Cards

By SEN Resource Source

Colorful Semantics is a structured language intervention designed to support the development of language and communication skills, particularly in children with speech and language difficulties. This resource includes visual cue cards to remind children of the colors for each type of word. It has the four standard colorful semantics colors for who, what doing, what and where but then also has four extra cards for how, who to, when and what like.

Why do you need this?

Colorful Semantics uses color coded cards to help children to learn the important elements of a sentence and how to join them together in the correct order. By visually representing each part of the sentence with a specific color, learners can better understand the structure and meaning of sentences, as well as the relationships between words.

How and when might you use this?

This approach is often implemented through a variety of interactive and hands-on activities, such as sentence building games, storytelling, and picture-based exercises. It can be tailored to the individual needs and abilities of learners, making it suitable for use in both classroom settings and speech and language clinics.

What’s included?

8 Visual cue cards for ‘who’, ‘what doing’, ‘what’, ‘where’, ‘what like’, ‘who to’, ‘how’ and ‘when’.

If you like this product here are some other things you may be interested in…

Paragraph Practice - expanding your thoughts and adding supporting details

By Until the Pieces Fit

Do your students need some additional supports with expanding their thoughts when they are writing a paragraph? My students were having difficulty with developing ideas that were on topic & adding details to their writing. So, I made this as a practice to expanding their thoughts. (*this activity builds on my other writing packet which will be linked below)

What is included?

  • While this is posted as a PDF, the first 11 pages were made as a way to begin discussions with your students. While you can use as posters or visual supports, I merely projected the pages onto my white board and we discussed the importance of our writings.
  • 2 pages of matching - Each page has simple sentences students can read. They will draw lines from one side to the other to select the sentences that support one another.
  • 2 pages of multiple choice - A sentence is provided, and students will select the sentence that supports it best from a choice of 4.
  • Paragraph orders - 4 cut and paste pages. Students will read the sentences, cut them out, and place them in the correct order.
  • Write a paragraph - Use the page of writing prompts to write a paragraph that has additional supporting details.
  • Templates - Depending on the level of support your student needs I have included 3 different templates. The first is the hamburger, however adapted to support students in providing supporting details. The other templates are unlined/lined boxes.

These resources can be used in direct instruction, small /large groups. I have attached it as a pdf, so you could project the pages onto your board and write. Please reach out with any questions: untilthepiecesfit2@gmail.com

Please follow my store for future lessons

Are your looking for activities that provide initial support with developing paragraph? Check out my other listing.
