This is a science non-fiction text about rainbows written with upper elementary students in mind. It is paired with the tie-dyed milk experiment (which in this case you can call it the "make a rainbow experiment)." Completed with a partner, students will analyze how writers use metaphors in poetry by looking at examples. The PDF provides multiple examples to guide students. Writing a Biography Poem can be a fun and interesting project for your students. Students will learn what a biography poem is, why we write a biography poem, the 10 lines that make up a biography poem and what is included in each of those lines, and for lines 2-10, a chart is included that provides students with numerous examples or ideas that they can include on each line of the biography poem. Students will also learn what is included in a biography poem. Summary:

Galway Kinnell was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on February 1, 1927.

After serving in the United States Navy, he spent several years of his life traveling, including extensive tours of Europe and the Middle East, especially Iran and France. His first book of poems, What a Kingdom It Was (Houghton Mifflin), was published in 1960, followed by Flower Herding on Mount Monadnock (Houghton Mifflin, 1964).

This 10th - 12th grade canonized poem allows students to understand life and love and the need to reflect.
