Your students will enjoy Déjeuner du Matin, Jacques Prévert, an engaging lesson that will save you loads of time. Differentiation is easy with this lesson that includes all four skills - reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The poem Déjeuner du Matin is spectacularly well known in France, and it's especially easy to understand when you follow all of the steps in this lesson plan.

Expect your students to:

• learn new French vocabulary words
• practice the passé composé - regular, irregular, and reflexive verbs
• gain knowledge of French literature, especially Jacques Prévert
• begin to understand French culture through poetry
• explore and identify emotions in French
• make inferences before even reading the poem
• sharpen listening skills
• work on oral production
• write a short paragraph about the poem in their own words

Completed with a partner, students will analyze how writers use metaphors in poetry by looking at examples. The PDF provides multiple examples to guide students. They will then read and analyze a mentor poem and utilize the same structure to write their poem. They will love creating their poems and watching their ideas come to life! This well-organized activity allows students to effortlessly become poets, while thinking about concise and precise word choice, counting syllables to create rhythm, getting exposure to high-quality examples, and learning something new! Writing a Biography Poem can be a fun and interesting project for your students. Students will learn what a biography poem is, why we write a biography poem, the 10 lines that make up a biography poem and what is included in each of those lines, and for lines 2-10, a chart is included that provides students with numerous examples or ideas that they can include on each line of the biography poem. Students will also learn what is included in a biography poem. An example of three possible biography poem theme ideas, a biography poem example, a biography poem brainstorming chart, and 2 biograph poem templates are included in this product.

1.      Same Picture Four Settings- Students are given a partial character drawing and asked to draw that character in four different settings. There are two ways to complete this assignment. I have provided a list of possible settings to draw out (students would pick these out of a hat/bowl, OR they could choose four from the list to use).

2.      Describe the Setting-Five different pictures are given. You can give it to students at random or give it to all five students. Their instructions are to (using complete sentences) describe the setting.

3.      Setting for any book- Use this chart to help students fill out their knowledge of the setting of any book.
