Daily Math Bellringers: August: Measurement, Geometry, Data
By Colleen Burdette
Engaging Daily practice:
I never seem to have enough time to practice measurement, geometry, and data, so I created these bellringers to quickly practice these skills with my class.
These bellringers are based on “National day of...”. The problems presented cover measurement conversion, geometry (polygons, perimeter, area, volume), data collection and analysis.
This is a digital activity which can be posted each day. Answer sheets are provided in three options. Teachers can choose between sheets with or without reference items.
Great practice of those skills which don't get as much attention.

Real-Life Math Fun practice/resource! Slope - A Student activity on Gradient.
By Daniel
It is always a good strategy to review essential skills with your students, and this is right up there with the most essential!
Slope (Gradient) is a very practical real-life experience for all of us - we climb stairs daily and walk up and down very steep and less steep inclines. In this practical, outside activity, students encounter slope first hand and then make sense of the mathematics behind it. Students are then encouraged to think about the real-life applications and implications that slope has in the life of people like the elderly and the handicapped.
Linear equations, slope, rise over run, gradient, y=mx+b.
You might also enjoy these 2 resources on slope as well!

The Super Burger: Writing & Using Linear Functions From Real-World Scenarios
By EZMath
The Super Burger is an 8th Grade math activity that gives students the opportunity to create and use linear functions to solve a real-world problem. This 3-page printable activity gives students three increasingly challenging scenarios in which they must create, graph, and use a linear function based on the menu of a fast food burger chain.
Great as a summation activity at the end of a linear function unit, this differentiated task starts students with a basic proportional situation, then increases in challenge in each following task. As students reach each new task, the teacher can assess how students are doing along the way and use this formative assessment to help guide any needed intervention before there is an assessment.
This lesson can be done as a whole class direct instruction lesson, as a partner activity, or even with whole table groups to encourage problem solving and math discussion.
This lesson includes the following materials:
If you have been looking for a good linear functions formative assessment or team-based activity, this lesson is a great fit.
