~ Day of the Dragon King literature unit can be used with a guided reading group or as a whole class novel study. ~ Questions use higher level thinking skills. ~Included in the unit: -comprehension questions for each chapter -Chinese inventions research activity -bingo vocabulary game -cut and paste the vocabulary words to the card each student makes their own card; when a player has bingo they select one of the words and tell why it was important to the story; the game can also be played prior to reading the book to develop vocabulary -compound words activities -word sort – person, place, thing, adjective, time -print off two sets to play memory ~ I use this unit with one of my guided reading groups. The unit can last from a week to two weeks depending on how often I meet with the group. ~ Day of the Dragon King is an AR level 3.3 book.

Two Novel Studies for THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN and THE ONE AND ONLY BOB by Katherine Applegate.

These are engaging and comprehensive units that allow your students to respond to the story by using a wide range of reading comprehension strategies and skills.

With comprehension questions and activities for each chapter the units can be followed chapter by chapter, with no extra preparation or planning required by the teacher. The responses in the unit have been planned and arranged so that your students will practise a wide range of comprehension strategies in context. They have been designed to promote thinking and understanding. Tasks can be completed independently, collaboratively or alongside a teacher.
