Social cues—expressed through body language and facial expressions—are a constant part of students’ lives, whether or not they are directly interacting with others. Students with social skills challenges may struggle to interpret these cues, including facial expressions, gestures, and overall posture. Misreading social cues can lead to misunderstandings and difficulties in navigating social situations. Strengthening the ability to recognize and interpret these signals can boost students’ confidence, deepen their understanding of their environment, help them respond appropriately in different situations, manage uncomfortable encounters, and, importantly, prevent potential conflicts.

*******************************

This resource includes 25 practical picture worksheets that help students practice interpreting social cues, such as body language, and responding appropriately. Through these activities, students strengthen their ability to infer people’s feelings and situations, allowing them to choose the most suitable responses.

▶️ 25 Picture Worksheets (Same Pictures in the Task Cards)

**✅ **This resource includes 25 Social Cues Worksheets, available in both printable and digital formats, featuring lines and questions for students to record their responses. Each worksheet contains three questions to prompt student engagement.

  1. What do you notice about this person’s (or people’s) body language?
  2. What do his/her/their cues tell you about his/her/their situation or what he/she/they may be feeling or thinking?
  3. What would be an appropriate thing to do or say to someone in this situation?

✅ Answer Keys | Suggested Responses are included to help you lead effective discussions with your students.

✅ The worksheets feature the same images as the Task Cards and give students the opportunity to interpret social cues, make inferences about a person’s emotions, thoughts, and circumstances, and suggest appropriate responses.

▶️ 25 Picture Task Cards

✅ These Task Cards feature images that illustrate a variety of body language cues. They can be incorporated into larger lessons, used in guided small-group sessions, integrated into whole-class discussions, explored in partner discussions before sharing with the group, or even used one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian. The images match those featured in the Social Cues Worksheets.

✅ Print the Task Cards on glossy or regular paper and laminate them for durability. You can also organize them on a binder ring for easy access and storage.

Task Cards can be used in several ways:

  • Writing Response: Students analyze a picture to interpret the person’s body language, identifying feelings, thoughts, and circumstances. Prompts such as "Which social cues do you notice?""What do these cues suggest?", and "What is the most appropriate way to respond?" encourage deeper analysis. Students can then exchange papers with a partner, who evaluates the responses and offers alternative perspectives.
  • Discussion: In small groups or as a whole class, students use the Task Cards to identify social cues, interpret their meanings, make inferences about the person or situation, and discuss appropriate ways to respond.

▶️ POWERPOINT (25 SLIDES – EDITABLE!)

**✅ **This resource includes a 25-slide editable PowerPoint. Each slide contains the same images featured in the worksheets and task cards. You can rearrange or resize the pictures as needed and add your own text. This PowerPoint is a versatile tool for guiding your lesson, supporting picture analysis, and encouraging meaningful discussions.

▶️ 3 EDITABLE Social Cues Picture Worksheets

**✅ Editable Picture Worksheet #1: **In this editable version, you may add any picture you like. All other elements on this page are locked and cannot be edited due to copyright restrictions.

**✅ Editable Picture Worksheet #2: **In this editable version, you may add any picture you like and enter your own text in the boxes. All other elements on this page are locked and cannot be edited due to copyright restrictions.

Boundaries are guidelines, rules, or limits that separates your physical space, feelings, and needs from others. Social boundaries represent physical and emotional limits that you don’t want people to cross. They identify a safe and permissible way for other people to behave towards you. Being able to set and respect boundaries is a crucial part of self-care and personal development that will serve your students well throughout their entire lives. Teaching boundaries and personal space to your students is essential in helping them reach and maintain successful personal relationships, increase self-esteem and awareness, and take responsibility for creating a life that they choose versus one they are simply at the will of others.

Introducing the topic of social and personal boundaries in the classroom can open up opportunities not only for debate and critical thinking, but also for personal growth and self-reflection.

These questions have the potential to spark engaging discussions among students and introduce them to diverse perspectives on boundaries. It would be intriguing to observe students' thoughts on various boundary-related issues and their understanding of others' viewpoints.

It's super helpful for students who are not that familiar with how to use Google Slides or need the extra assistance.

*********************************

Peer pressure is real and all too common! Teens constantly experience all kinds of peer pressure both in and out of school. Peer pressure can ultimately affect teens' decision-making, behaviors, attitudes, and outlook on life. It's often hard to navigate difficult situations and say no, especially when there is a strong human need to fit in and feel important.

This resource focuses on negative peer pressure, providing opportunities for teachers, educators, counselors, and parents to:

help students make better decisions when it comes to awkward or difficult situations

help students say "no" when they have to

help students set and communicate social boundaries

help students consider the possible consequences of choices

help students build confidence

Additionally, these scenarios allow opportunities for you to teach your students exit strategies or ways to say "no" to negative pressures. Together, you can think through strategies on how to deal with those scenarios if they arise. This can even be done by discussing the scenarios and role-playing. It is helpful to think about these things ahead of time rather than dealing with situations as they occur or trying to recover after they happen.

The scenarios encourage students to think about and practice how to:

  • navigate difficult situations and challenges with peers and close friends
  • practice and suggest ways to say no
  • have difficult conversations with the very people they spend a great deal of time with
  • build confidence in managing their emotions
  • handle challenging situations with a sense of maturity
  • improve social skills and behavior
  • evaluate best solutions in different situations
  • solve problems

This resource features (and is centered around) 48 REAL-LIFE, peer pressure scenarios/situations that teens and young adults experience daily in school and out of school. Students read the scenarios and write, discuss, or create role-plays/skits on how to maturely handle peer pressure in these situations.

******************************************

✅ TASK CARDS

This resource includes 48 Peer Pressure Scenario Task Cards that come in the following variations:

  • 48 Peer Pressure COLORED Task Cards
  • 48 Peer Pressure B&W Task Cards

These two different Task Cards variations contain the same scenarios. You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

********************************************

✅ SCENARIO WORKSHEETS (Print and Digital)

This resource also includes 48 WORKSHEETS with lines, so students can write their responses. The worksheets include the same scenarios in the Task Cards.

********************************************

********************************************

❤️ How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards❤️

  • Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate negative peer pressure. Students will be exposed to a variety of ways they can handle negative peer pressure. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
  • Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
  • Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.
  • Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations.

✅ This resource includes 24 Leadership Scenario Task Cards with questions and without questions (both Colored and B&W). ✅ You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

✨ Role-Playing: The scenarios provide students with opportunities to discuss, understand, and role play the variety of effective ways they can show leadership and maintain positive interactions with people. Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios included in the Task Cards and worksheets and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or address difficult situations through effective communication. Students can practice and learn the variety of ways they can handle situations that test their ability to understand others’ points of views, filter their thoughts, respond appropriately and maturely, and communicate effectively. These activities can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.

Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.

Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.

Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses: How would you show leadership in this situation? How would you respond in this situation? What strategies can you use to motivate your team members to "follow" you? Students can swap papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/situations.

By Exceptional Education CA

This Functional Literacy Skills - Days of the Week Task Box and Visual Schedule Bundle is the perfect way to help students learn the days of the week as they begin the new school year! This set allows students to learn the days of the week, as well as their order. Students can then generalize this learning by creating and following a weekly schedule.  Task Box activities and Visual Schedule can be laminated and placed in task boxes or file folders, allowing them to be prepped once and reused with all of your students!

It's often hard to navigate difficult situations and say no, especially when there is a strong human need to fit in and feel important.

Students can engage in meaningful discussions about peer pressure using the questions in this resource. This resource includes 68 Writing/Discussion Questions related to peer pressure, peer influence, and risky behaviors. Introducing the topic of peer pressure in the classroom can open up opportunities for debate, critical thinking, self-reflection, and an overall better understanding of the impact that peer influence can have on a person.

Through these writing and discussion sessions, other important topics can arise and encourage students to reflect about:

how they can navigate difficult situations and challenges with peers and close friends.

ways to say ”no.”

how to have difficult conversations with the very people they spend a great deal of time with.

how to articulate their feelings clearly and appropriately in situations that make them feel uncomfortable.

how to build confidence in managing their emotions in awkward or tense situations.

how to handle challenging situations with a sense of maturity.

how to improve social skills and behavior.

how to communicate boundaries respectfully.

how to evaluate best solutions in different situations.

how to solve peer-related problems.

These questions can ignite intense student discussions and expose students to different viewpoints about peer pressure. It would be interesting to see how students think about certain issues and understand others' perspectives about what they think is the best way to navigate/handle peer pressure.

This resource includes 68 questions in Task Card form and 68 questions in Worksheet form, where students can write more extensive responses.

*************************

Anxiety is a common human reaction involving the mind and body, marked by feelings of uneasiness, nervousness, worry, fear, or dread about what's coming up or might happen. It acts like an internal alarm system, triggering when someone senses danger or threat. Lately, we've observed an uptick in anxiety among our students, especially teens who are dealing with various stressors.

While it's typical for teenagers to feel concerned during busy and complicated times, it becomes problematic when these worries take over their lives. Unmanaged anxiety can impact students' ability to perform well and handle everyday tasks with a sense of calm. It's essential to teach all students, not just those who are particularly anxious, how to effectively cope with their emotions and anxieties. This helps contribute to their overall well-being and gives them tools to navigate life's challenges more successfully.

This resource features 76 thoughtful writing and discussion prompts centered around anxiety. Designed to prompt students to reflect on the nature of anxiety, its underlying causes, and effective strategies for navigating challenging situations that trigger anxiety, these questions aim to foster a deeper understanding of the subject. Additionally, students are encouraged to articulate their understanding of anxiety. These prompts serve as a valuable tool for facilitating meaningful discussions among students, promoting awareness that enables them to identify anxiety in others and respond empathetically.

Many young teens, and even adults, struggle with maintaining a filter, finding it challenging to prevent their thoughts, feelings, or emotions from influencing their choice of words—especially when upset or feeling wronged. They may impulsively express the first thing that comes to mind, neglecting to consider the potential consequences. This tendency often leads to unnecessary drama and negative energy. It is crucial for students to acquire the skill of controlling their emotions in awkward situations and thinking before they speak. Our words possess the power to either uplift or damage people's self-esteem and confidence. While honesty is fundamental to lasting relationships, expressing true feelings should be approached with respect, care, and appropriateness.

This resource focuses on 12 scenarios related to "Filtering Your Thoughts." Students are tasked with reading each scenario and expressing their initial thoughts in writing. Subsequently, they are encouraged to "filter" these thoughts and communicate them verbally in a manner that is both appropriate and respectful, avoiding any harm to others' feelings. This provides students with chances to practice selecting their words thoughtfully, substituting negative thoughts and expressions with positive energy. It also helps them understand that they can convey their point honestly while maintaining appropriateness and respect.

**************************

4 GOOGLE SLIDE VERSIONS are included: One for the graphic organizer worksheet variation, one for the writing prompt variation, one for the blank worksheets variation, and one for the PowerPoint variation.

**************************

RESOURCE ITEMS

▶️ 12 TASK CARDS (COLORED and B&W)

  • The Scenario Task Cards are versatile and can be integrated into various settings, such as larger lessons, guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussions before sharing with the entire group, or individual sessions with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian. Both variations of Task Cards feature identical scenarios. Printing options include gloss paper or regular paper, and they can be laminated for durability. Organizing them on a binder ring is also an effective method.

▶️ 12 WRITING RESPONSE WORKSHEETS

  • This resource also includes 12 Writing Response WORKSHEETS with lines, so students can write their responses to the following writing prompt task:

Consider the scenario and share your thoughts on how you would handle the situation. Describe how you would internally filter your initial reactions and articulate them verbally in a manner that is respectful and sensitive, ensuring you don't hurt the other person's feelings.

  • Answer Keys | Sample Responses included!

▶️ 12 SCENARIO GRAPHIC ORGANIZER WORKSHEETS

  • This resource also includes 12 Graphic Organizer-style WORKSHEETS, which can be used to differentiate for students. • These worksheets are great for “Quick Writes,” Do Now activities, Note-Taking/Reflection periods, Formative Assessments, or can simply be used as part of a larger lesson or discussion! They include breath-taking borders, fonts, and clip arts by other contributing artists.

  • Also included are three blank Activity Worksheets for you to duplicate and generate your own scenarios and students write them down - allows for great flexibility.

  • Comprehensive Sample Responses are provided for EACH of these scenario worksheets, offering an additional adult perspective on potential responses to these scenarios.

♻To Print Task Cards: The Task Cards, as downloaded, are 1/2 page which are great for students that need a larger size. To print 4x6 index card-sized task cards, select "2 pages per sheet". To print 3x5 index card-sized task cards, select "4 pages per sheet". These are not designed to print directly to index card template paper. What has worked best for my students was to print on heavy-duty card stock and laminate.

Throughout your students’ education and lives, they will indeed grapple with many choices that test their personal values, beliefs, and priorities. They will encounter all kinds of situations where they must choose between doing what’s right and doing what’s wrong. Students can engage in meaningful discussions about right and wrong using the questions in this resource.

This resource includes 68 Writing/Discussion Questions related to morality and ethics. Introducing the topic of ethical/moral dilemmas in the classroom can open up opportunities not only for debates and critical thinking, but also for personal growth, empathy for other viewpoints and perspectives, and self-reflection.

These questions can ignite intense student discussions and expose students to different viewpoints about morals and ethics. It would be interesting to see how students think about certain issues and understand others' perspectives about what they think is considered the "right" thing to do and the "wrong" thing to do.

This resource includes both print and digital versions (with text boxes already created)! You can assign activities to students in person or remotely – either way works!
