Real-Life Math fun! RSA Encryption Powers of 2 Exponential Laws Successive Squar
By Daniel
A very interesting piece of the Real-Life Math puzzle that is the ultimate Back-to-school activity!
The sequence of powers of 2 is called successive squaring. The fact that every next power of 2 in the previous power of 2 squared is a very powerful tool to handle huge numbers easily.
This product includes a FREE classroom poster, a FREE Google Form quiz (and a FREE PDF-version of the quiz) and a FREE key to the task.
The task, (with key), will involve...
The powers of 2
Successive Squaring
Modular Arithmetic
Calculating the congruences of large powers with only a basic calculator (this is a very exciting skill for students)
Successive Squaring is a central part of the RSA Public Key Cryptosystem and mathematicians, programmers and students who encrypt data will use it all the time.
It is important that students know (and that teachers always remind them) when they are busy with these topics, that they are learning fundamental mathematics needed to encrypt data and secret messages.
