These Setting Graphic Organizers are an assortment of graphic organizers that can be used to help students explore and analyze SETTING. Students will learn how and why a work’s time and place affects the events and/or the characters of the work. Often the reader/writer will want to consider setting as part of another form of literary analysis (extending the analysis of a character, for example). These graphic organizers vary in difficulty, which provides options for differentiation. The graphic organizers can be mixed and matched for an increase of difficulty. These graphic organizers can help students organize their thoughts when thinking about an author's message.

This is a novel study of Gary Paulsen's Hatchet. In this product, there are completed lesson plans (and a blank one if you need to write your own), a slideshow that includes everything for each chapter (introduction, review of content, copy of the doodle notes, copy of the end of chapter activity/discussion outline, and the closure question), the Doodle Notes outline for each chapter, and the End of Chapter/Discussion activities. This novel study is for 4th-grade to 7th-grade students.
In this novel study, students will practice central idea/supporting details, writing summaries, citing evidence from a text, making inferences, analyzing figures of speech, describing story elements, cause/effect text structure, problem/solution text structure, and multiple opportunities to practice discussions with their classmates.
A large part of this novel study is discussion-based. I have included a slide on the slideshow where you will put your classroom expectations for discussions. There are also times for the introduction to the chapter, you will start with a whole group discussion. (I would maybe recommend turn and talks if you use groups in your classroom)
I hope you enjoy it. Please send me any questions that you may have and please rate and review.

I don’t know about you, but I love having options! Because of that, I have worked to provide different leveled newspaper templates. These could easily be combined into a multipage newsletter booklet if you so choose, or it could remain as a single page assignment. I also tried to make it so that you could have a “front page” and a content page if you printed front and back. Whichever level your students are in, I think that there is a little something in here for everyone!

As a video production teacher, one of the most important parts of my class is to make sure that my students can write a script. Whether it’s the script for the daily news show or the script for a short film, the process is still the same...it’s basic writing. I take a week at the beginning of the semester to talk about script writing in general. Here are those plans.
Day 1 ~ Introduce the idea of movie scripts. Read some movie scripts. Links included to three movies.
Day 2 ~ Brainstorm your script. Work out details on Location.
Day 3 ~ Character Development
Day 4 ~ Introduce Synopsis
