Students are more likely to work towards higher levels of achievement when they have access to assessment tools used to evaluate their work. These three student-friendly 2-Point Short Response Rubrics consist of language that students are familiar with and can easily understand. These Rubrics enhance students' understanding of how their work will be evaluated. At the bottom of the rubric, there is a "Scorer" section where the teacher/scorer can provide comments and feedback on students' writing responses. This is an excellent tool for lower level, Special Ed, and ELL students.

These Rubrics can be used for peer evaluation. Students can use these "easy to follow" rubrics to evaluate the work of their peers and provide comments and feedback.

What Is Included: Task 1: Create Your Apple Playlist Task 2: Descriptive Paragraph About Your Playlist Task 3: Cover Art Design Task 4: Reflection Questions (Equity and Inclusivity) Rubric I typically give this assignment out at the beginning of the school year to get to know my student’s taste in music. It takes between 4-6 periods to complete and is appropriate for grade 5-8. Please note: This assignment works best if you are able to access Apple Music. As a teacher, you could always set up a free account to show to your students or ask your students if any of them already have it and would be willing to show the class how it works. Spend some time and show them how to use it if you have access to it. You can also see some demos from the Apple website. If you do not subscribe to Apple Music, I highly recommend it. You can still use this assignment without Apple Music with your students and they can reflect on the inclusivity of the playlist that they create. TIPS: 1. A Proofreading Checklist for students to monitor and proofread their own work. This Checklist includes important components needed in a quality paragraph. The following handout allows students to write a rough draft and then use this checklist to proofread their paragraph. I created this rubric to help my middle students know what is expected of them when completing a journal writing prompt for a personal narrative. Often times, my students take advantage of free writing and do not think of it as a "real grade." Giving them something to base their writing off of gives them more direction and motivation to turn in their best work, while also sticking to their personal story/experiences.

*This was intended for, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, the global pandemic COVID-19 experience. My students are given a weekly prompt via Google Classroom as well as this rubric to follow.

This guided descriptive essay asks students to describe a nutcracker. There are three separate options to use based on the level and ability of your students.

Option 1: A full five-paragraph essay with three body paragraphs and an introduction and conclusion are required. This includes a planning page, a student requirement page, and a rubric.

Option 2: A fill-in-the-blank essay is used for young writers learning to spell and write. Includes planning page, student requirement page, and nutcracker to color according to description.

Option 3: A Full five-paragraph essay with 3 body paragraphs, an introduction, and a conclusion is required. This includes a planning page, a student requirement page, and a rubric. A little less is required for this level.

Fairy Tale Scenarios

This is a 3 part individual/group assignment where groups (of 4-6) are given a problem based on a well known fairy tale where students have to write and perform their solution to the problem. Students will write out a monologue individually and as a group will write the body of the script. After the groups have resolved their problem, each group member will have a chance to reflect on how their character feels after the resolution of the problem. This activity would be appropriate for middle school students. This package will provide your students with hours of entertainment that include opportunities to write and showcase their creativity.
