$5 - $10 Phonics Assessment

This resource was created in order to help Speech Language Pathologists target initial phonemes at the word level. This resource includes a total of 40 pictured initial /h/ CV and CVC words to use the h-insertion trick during speech therapy sessions.

The h-insertion trick can be an extremely helpful strategy to use when children are stuck at the isolation level of a sound. By producing /h/ after the initial sound, the child continues their air flow, making it easier to produce the following vowel. This helps them to eliminate the prior habit of producing the incorrect sound.

These activity mats (les voyelles) were designed with the K-3 teacher in mind. As you introduce new sounds to your Kindergarten/Grade One students, you can use the image pages for students to show sound recognition and phonemic awareness before they are able to identify letters/graphemes. As students grow in confidence, you can add the element of identifying CV sounds or VC sounds containing the target sound. Each mat has 6 cards that will contain the target sound. Students choose the card they think is the correct one, and attach the card to the mat with Velcro dots. The third and final level is identifying the target sound inside a word. Students will need to decode sounds to correctly determine the 6 matching cards that go on the mat. This resource will grow with your students as their abilities grow.

How to prepare this resource:

Make a copy of each page and laminate the page

Cut out the activity mat (the part on the left side of the page) and the activity cards (12 cards per mat)

Insert all the materials into a plastic bag, zipper pouch, or activity basket and you have a brand new independent work station for your Science of Reading lesson!

Do you need a quick and efficient way to assess your students’ second grade high-frequency word recall?

This resource includes everything you need to benchmark your students’ high-frequency word recall three times each year. Each student (up to 30) will have a tab in this Google Sheet with three sight word assessments, one for fall, one for spring, and one for winter.

Simply click each missed word on the assessor probe as the student reads. Words read correctly and accuracy will be automatically calculated and added to the class data sheet. Alphabet pages are a NO PREP printable activity that align with the Science of Reading with vocabulary that contains the target sounds for K-2 French students. Each page helps students build phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and endoding and decoding skills with sweet graphics and easy to read fonts. Build a strong foundation in French language with educational resources designed specifically with your students in mind!

What’s in my workbook?

-In each page, you will find a large bubble letter, upper and lower case, for students to colour or trace inside the lines.

-A section for identifying upper and lowercase letters by colouring the appropriate boxes.

-There is a section for tracing letters in upper and lowercase to build efficiency in printing.

-Students then have a quick little sentence using the target sound by circling the target letter.

-Next is a word practice.

-Finally, the student is asked to colour images that have the target sound.

Option 1:

Alphabet Worksheets have been organised by vowel sound first, followed by the consonant sound letters. Please note the ‘e accent aigu’ has been introduced early in each version.

Option 2:

Alphabet sounds have been organised as they are introduced by the Bien lire, Aimer lire formatting preferred by many French schools in Canada and abroad.

This is done to make it easier to sequence lessons based on the preferred letter introduction sequence.

Alphabet sounds:

-all vowel sounds a, e, i, o, u, y (as i), and e accent aigu

-consonant sounds including hard and soft g, and c

-y as a consonant

-images containing each of the letter sounds

-on sentence of decodable words with primarily simple sounds (complex sounds also present as are some heart words)

Do you need a quick and efficient way to assess your kindergarten or first grade students’ high-frequency word recall?

Do want digital data files that can be easily accessed, shared, and analyzed?

This resource includes everything you need to benchmark your students’ high-frequency word recall three times each year. Each student (up to 30) will have a tab in this Google Sheet with three sight word assessments, one for fall, one for spring, and one for winter.

Simply click each missed word on the assessor probe as the student reads. Words read correctly and accuracy will be automatically calculated and added to the class data sheet. A line graph of words read correctly will also be populated for quick analysis of class data and progress throughout the school year.

Each probe can be printed and sent home so progress can be shared with parents (print horizontally, fit to page).

Fun, colorful overlays are included to help guide students’ eyes if you choose to present the student probes digitally (in PPT or Google Slides™)

Are you tired of writing goals and then having to scramble to come up with a way to monitor them?

I created this user-friendly, editable progress monitoring document to help teachers assess students on various skills tailored to their individual needs and goals.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE GOOGLE SHEETS™ WORKBOOK:

• A MASTER LIST sheet to enter the words you would like to assess.
• Thirty assessor probes with checkboxes. Probes auto calculate raw score and percent as well as displaying the student goal so it is always at the forefront! Missed words copy to the error box on each probe!
• Thirty matching student probes to print right from the workbook!
• A data sheet displaying date, raw score, percent correct, and missed words!
• Two graphs (raw score and percent correct) with baselines generated from the students initial score and goal!

HOW TO PREPARE THE ASSESSMENT:

• Simply enter the items to be assessed on the MASTER LIST tab. 
• Fill 40 boxes for each word to appear on each probe. This is great for monitoring specific words.
• Enter up to 400 words (100 in each column) to measure a skill. Words will be randomly selected to appear on the probes. Not every word will be on every probe.
• Words will never appear more than once on a probe!
• Lock the words using the LOCK button!
• Print the student probes right from the Google Sheets™ Workbook!

HOW TO ADMINISTER THE ASSESSMENT:

• Enter the student name and goal on the data sheet. 
• Enter the student's initial scores (raw and percent) and goal scores on the data sheet to create graphs with a baseline!
• Check each incorrect word as the student reads.
• Enter the total number of words attempted.
• Total words read and percent correct will be calculated and graphed!
• Missed words are copied to the error box, data sheet, and targeted word cards!

PRINT WORD CARDS:

• After assessing, missed words will be copied to the word cards.
• Click the arrow link to jump to the word cards for a specific probe.
• Word cards can be printed with normal scale and normal margins.

This tool is intended for personal use. You may create as many copies of the workbook as you need to monitor the students in your class or on your caseload.
