Caught Ya Being Respectful - An SEL Activity on Respect

By Jeni Donath

"Caught Ya Being Respectful" is a fun and engaging activity that not only gets students talking about being respectful and what that looks like, but it also encourages them to make connections of people (that they know and often admire!) that are showing respect around them as well! This activity includes everything needed for your next classroom lesson on respect, including two worksheets (Wanted Poster and Bonus Activity!) as well as different ideas that you can do with the finished products! My students LOVED this and it was fun for our teachers to see the outcome as well. We got a lot of learning and laughs out of this activity!

FREE - Mindful Mandalas - Attention #1 - Mindfulness, Coloring Activity

By Manic Math Teacher

Free download! This download includes Page 1 only out of 12 in this set, interested in more? Check out the entire set here: Mindful Mandalas - Attention Set #1 - Mindfulness, Coloring Activity

Introducing our "Mindfulness Mandala Coloring Page" – a wonderful tool to help our students embrace mindfulness and cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness. This thoughtfully designed mandala coloring page is more than just an art activity; it's a gateway to mindfulness and emotional exploration.

As a teacher, I understand the importance of nurturing our students' well-being and providing them with tools to navigate the challenges they may face. That's why I'm excited to offer this "Mindfulness Mandala Coloring Page" as an extra assignment to encourage our students to consider mindfulness.

The captivating mandala design is created to capture their attention and transport them to a world of tranquility and creativity. Through coloring, students can find a moment of respite from the demands of their studies and immerse themselves in the present moment.

Each page includes prompts such as, "Imagine the mandala as a garden of emotions. Explore how different colors can nurture and cultivate the emotional landscape within you," provides a gentle invitation for our students to engage in self-reflection. As they select colors and fill in the intricate patterns, they can observe the emotions that arise and embrace the unique beauty of each stroke.

By incorporating mindfulness into their coloring experience, students can develop a greater sense of emotional intelligence and self-compassion. This assignment offers an opportunity for them to understand that emotions are fluid, and just like the mandala, they change and evolve over time.

I believe that promoting mindfulness among our students can help them manage stress, enhance focus, and develop empathy towards themselves and others. Encouraging this "Mindfulness Mandala Coloring Page" as an extra assignment is my way of supporting their emotional well-being and fostering a positive learning environment.

Let's embark on this mindful journey together, guiding our students toward self-awareness and personal growth with the "Mindfulness Mandala Coloring Page." I'm excited to witness the positive impact it will have on their lives, both inside and outside the classroom.

Secret Mission Behavior Management Activity to encourage positivity

By Until the Pieces Fit

Are you looking for an easy way to improve student behaviors? This is a fun, easy, print and go activity.

I use the secret missions with my students. Simply print the packet, cut out, and post the missions in your room (be sure to cover each mission with a "secret mission" card".

Then the magic begins. Each morning during your morning meeting time chose a kiddo to uncover a mission. Discuss the mission, the importance of it, what it looks like. I generally have a secret task force who also watches for the behaviors. Then when your children are "caught" they earn a party point/tally/ball (whatever reinforcer you use) for your class. Currently my kids are working to earn hot chocolate with toppings.

I hope this is something fun for you and your kiddos. Please be sure to follow me for additional resources and updates!

The Anticipation Guides can help structure meaningful conversations that reviews what students already know and engages them in critical thinking about the topic they will be exploring. The statements in the Anticipation Guides can spark some great discussions among students!! This Anticipation Guide and Self-Assessment focuses on Body Language | Nonverbal Communication | Social Cues.

You can use an Anticipation Guide:

ANTICIPATION GUIDES

There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:

⭐ *Part 1: *The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.

⭐ *Part 2: *The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.

**▶️ Variation #2: **This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.

******************************

SELF-ASSESSMENT

This resource includes a single Body Language Self-Assessment. Students will use the body language - related statements to reflect on their understanding of nonverbal communication, evaluate their ability to interpret and respect others’ cues, and identify areas where they can improve. They will score the statements using the following scale: 2 for “Regularly,” 1 for “Occasionally,” and 0 for “Never.” They will use this self-assessment as a tool to help them identify areas for growth and improvement in their ability to read, interpret, and use body language effectively in everyday interactions.

This assessment also serves as a valuable tool for initiating conversations about the importance of nonverbal communication in building positive relationships, fostering empathy, and enhancing overall social skills. It encourages students to recognize how body language can influence perceptions, convey emotions, and support effective communication in both personal and professional settings.

Apology Letter Template

By Ms. J's ELA

This resource is a simple template for an apology letter. While working with middle school students, I heard a lot of snarky comments being spewed without much forethought. I started having students write apology letters when those comments came out. The template is designed to help students think about their intentions, how they likely made the other person feel, and what they will do differently in the future.

What My Anger Looks Like Worksheet

By SEN Resource Source

Worksheet for children to think what they imagine their anger to look like. Young students may sketch angry monsters or dark storm clouds. Older children may draw more abstract manifestations with flames or jagged lines.

Why do you need this?

Drawing their anger allows children to visually represent their emotions, providing a concrete and tangible way to express their feelings. Creating their own visual interpretation of anger allows children to express themselves in a nonverbal manner. This can be especially beneficial for students who may struggle to articulate their emotions verbally.

How and when might you use this?

These worksheets could be used in a variety of ways:

· At the beginning of the school day or during transitions, teachers can have students complete the worksheet to check in with their emotions.

· During social-emotional lessons students can draw what their anger would look like as they learn about different emotions and strategies for managing them.

· After conflicts or disagreements among students, teachers can use the worksheet to facilitate discussions about anger and its expression.

· Small group work where the children discuss and reflect on their anger and coping strategies they use.

· During counselling sessions with children who are struggling with anger or emotional regulation.

· Teachers can integrate the worksheets into art activities to combine creative expression with emotional exploration.

Eco-Map SEL Activity

By Erin Cusumano

An eco-map is often used an assessment tool in clinical mental health settings, but can be a beneficial SEL activity for social awareness. This exercise can be modified for small children all the way through adults.

The graph asks the participant to picture their social life as an ecosystem where they are at the center. In the blank space around them they can write in all of their formal and informal social ties and resources they have. (For younger children I suggest offering the option to draw the people in their life!) For further reflection, the participant can then add a + to signify if the person/resource is a positive part of their life, a - to signify if the person/resource is a negative part of their life, or write +- to signify a give and take relationship.

I use this worksheet along with social awareness lessons to encourage students to think about who they can ask for help from, who they have as supports, or reflect on relationships. It also allows you to gain insight into your students' life and resources outside of the classroom.
