A great little get-to-know you activity, suitable for new classes where students don't know each other well yet. It also encourages students to think a little more deeply about themselves and how sharing such details may help them to broaden their friendships.

This resource is a simple template for an apology letter. While working with middle school students, I heard a lot of snarky comments being spewed without much forethought. I started having students write apology letters when those comments came out. The template is designed to help students think about their intentions, how they likely made the other person feel, and what they will do differently in the future.

This resource should accompany the play The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. This resource includes a notes sheet with resources for students to learn about the four communication styles: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive. Students are asked to think about their own communication styles.

There is also a Google Slides assignment for students to complete by explaining the communication styles of the characters in The Diary of Anne Frank. Students should name the style that they feel best fits each character and explain their reasoning.

Creating a positive environment for students is a top priority, but it can be difficult when individuals lack an awareness of the impact of their words towards others, especially when it does not affect them in the same way. This activity brings awareness and a better understanding, while also increasing empathy and care toward others. I also like to remind students that we cannot control what other people chose to say and do, though we can take time to educate and create awareness, especially when something they are saying or doing is impacting us. This lesson can be customized to fit whatever statements would be most beneficial in recognizing within your school.

"So You Think You Know Directions?!" is an absolute hit for my students! Prepare for a fun, engaging, and new favorite classroom activity for all! This activity focuses on multiple social emotional learning topics - attentive listening, awareness, team building, perseverance, respectful communication, and SO much more ALL in ONE activity! This digital download comes with everything you need for your next classroom lesson - detailed instructions, ready-to-print cards, and a guide for the teacher! Your students will all work together to complete one goal - get from person #1 to the last person, without skipping anyone in between! Each card comes with a different task that each student will be asked to complete.
